Alternative to Raptr IM?

UPDATE: Problem solved, newer versions of Raptr have solved this problem, at this point in time it is the Alpha.

 
Do you know of an IM client alternative to Raptr that will let me check my Xbox Live friend's game status and message them from my PC without playing a GFW game? 
 
The reason I don't want to use Raptr is because it very quickly disconnects from Xbox Live, and I want it to remain connected without issues. I also would rather not have some kind of game launcher or free game portal like Raptr has. I have Google'd for this, but I obviously suck at finding an alternative, I keep getting xbox messenger kit reviews.
 
Any suggestions or whatever would be much appreciated.

@elko84: Yeah, I use it occasionally, but I would prefer an IM client. Apparently the US live messenger client has a tab that lets you talk to Xbox Live friends, but I don't live there.

Yeah, it's all integrated here. As long as you're signed in to Windows Live Messenger, whether it's on your phone, computer, Xbox, etc. you can all talk to each other. I don't know of any other method of doing that. I don't even know how Raptr does it unless you're giving them your Live ID data. I wouldn't do that.

Yes. Say 500 people looked at this post, if any of them were thinking about using Raptr to talk to their Xbox Live buddies, they would be turned off straight away. Now that this person has responded, they get good forum publicity and since they solved the problem, I reply and say it works and now everyone is interested in having a Raptr. I must admit I was surprised to get a reply from someone representing the company (or pretending to?), but I appreciate their help.

I'm just trying to figure out how they found out about this topic and it only took them a few hours lol.

@ISuperGamerI: Maybe because GiantBomb is also a social network for gamers in a sense, and Raptr are checking this stuff out. I know that I typed something in once on twitter, virtually saying "I wish X worked, because it was actually useful", and then that company's representative responded almost immediately, I had no # or @ tags either in the message.

I've used the Raptr IM client before but I was never really 'sold' on it. While it works, I disliked the interface. As the Giant Bomb crew would put it, it felt a little 'janky'. It's not a client I particularly like, and I therefore avoid using it for the most part.
