I would love a new WW2 shooter. I had way more fun with those than all the modern ones, plus you kinda learned stuff from some of them.
Am I the only one who misses WW2 shooters?
I miss them a lot. Ya see my problem is that I hate any gun with a rate of fire faster than an M1 Garand, so I really haven't had a good time playing shooters in a while.
I would absolutely love a modern WW2 shooter. The last good one I played was brothers in arms hells highway. I played through COD: world at war and thought it was dissapointing and not as good as COD 1 and 2. I have been replaying medal of honor allied assault which is still awesome. I think there is room for a more tactical and realistic version of the WW2 action game, similar to brothers in arms but with more big spectacle. I think what could be done now on PC and what presumably will be possible on next gen consoles would be a very different experience to what we have seen in the past. Imagine fights with 100s of soldiers with planes and vehicles with full destruction and amazing graphics. I would love to see the game be set up from a different perspective for example playing as an italian soldier originally fighting with germany and then defecting and joining the allies. Also, the eastern front is always facinating.
I would also like to see more games set in the vietnam war. I think modern hardware and game design would make this much easier than it was in the past (despite the fact that several good vietnam shooters were made last gen). For example, adding in stealth elements would make for some very interesting tactical gameplay especially in a jungle environment. Imagine an open world game set in vietnam where you play as a fighter pilot who is shot down and needs to escape to an american base. I would design the game like a roguelike where you set a bunch of vaiables beforehand and randomly generate and spawn the map so a big part of the game would be trying to figure out which direction to head and weighing the risk reward of fighting VC partrols or to stealth around.

I just want a game dedicated solely to the russian campaign. I loved W@W for those parts.
It's not a shooter, but it is a sequel to one of the best RTS games ever.
I love (some) WW2 games because it is like playing a movie (mostly because the levels are ripped off from movies).
If they don't want to do WW2 again at least they could ripoff some cool modern movies like Black Hawk Down (loved the Novalogic game)
I could go for another Brothers in Arms game right about now.
Other than Brothers in Arms the slew of WW2 games are really no different than the cesspool of "modern" shooters we have today, both thematically and mechanically. They're both just about shooting hundreds and hundreds of dudes. The so called modern shooters never even touch on subjects that only have existed in modern war, (Vietnam on) except for maybe Spec Ops The Line but I haven't played it so I'm just going on what I've heard from other people. So no I don't miss them.
Yes, because I'm sick of shooting Middle Earsterners and Russians. I miss the good ol' days where we could blow Nazi's away, in point blank range with a 12 gauge.

Woah cool, cheers for letting me know about that. I'm getting a new computer in January so I should even be able to run it.
I'm with you. I would really go for a quality WWII shooter right now. What I was really thinking is that I would love another Brothers in Arms game. Hell's Highway was a bit rough but had so much potential as a foundation for a sequel and that never came about. I would love a game with that kind of squad combat.
It'd be really cool to have a co-op Brothers in Arms game with a fleshed out horde mode. I'd spend a lot of time with that.
So... Does anyone know that there was the Pacific Theater of Operation? With the Marines and Navy? You know, Guadalcanal, Midway, Peleliu, Okinawa, Iwo Jima? Just to name the most commonly known engagements.
Very few games have ever touched on the conflict with the Japanese Empire and even fewer were any good.
After all, it was the Japanese that bombed Pearl harbor and brought us into the war full speed. The war also didn't end with the capture of Berlin and dismantling of the Nazi party, it ended when two bombs were dropped on Japan and forced them into unconditional surrender.
I for one would love to play a Brother in Arms/Company of Heroes/ Band of Brothers styled game in the Pacific.
I would also love to play as a Nazi. Even with all the deeds that they did, not everyone was in the SS. I see some great story material here.
And then you can search for "You are not the only one" on google images and the first and the second image were both from one of those 29.200 thread results on google.@bio595 said:

Oh dear.
I know right? Every time I see it in a thread title I cringe.
You are never the only one.
Shut up.
And still, people don't get the message
Next generation, COD or Medal of Honor will have a slick WW2 shooter, with all that space would be cool if more history was involved in it. Finding the concentration camps etc
I don't give a shit where and when a game is set, I only care about whether or not it's a good game. Calling for a moratorium on any setting is asinine.
Totally with you, I would love more WW2 shooters. In fact, World at War was the best CoD, so there's that.
I think that I could go for another round of some good WW2 shooters. I am getting kind of sick of these modern military / futuristic settings. This particular type of game really just goes for where the most money is and doesn't want to take any risks. If they released a WW2 shooter people would not buy it as much as the modern games. Case in point World at War. If they released a new game it definitely would not be a HITler.
why does it even have to be a real battle from world war 2, I don't think anyone goes to those games for a piece of history, make a game that takes place between 1942-1945 and make a battle that never happened, or you play completely from the Russian perspective.

I don't think you could get a better WW2 shooter than Call of Duty 2 and/or World at War, unless they introduced a Spec-Ops type of not-actually-fun story driven game.
I read that line and had this huge picture blow up in my mind. That would be awesome! Someone make this game now.
