This is surreal. Tune in folks, this should be good. If Colbert says "but, this is about ethics", I might lose it.

I really really really hope all the bullshit will end after this.
I really really really don't think it will.
Pretty funny when she wanted to cancel his show some months back.

That's not what that post says at all.
Wonder if she will mention her interesting views on school shootings.
What do you find interesting about her views on school shootings?
Ugh. How the hell did people let this happen?
And no, I don't support gamergate, and I do realize that sexism in the industry is a problem and needs to be talked about. However, I really don't think she's the person to do it.
Gamergate isn't so much about sexism as it is about harassment. Anita knows plenty about that. She's also pretty charismatic on camera, so I think this will be great. At the very least, it's interesting to have this subject on TV.
YES. I bet the intersection of GamerGate supporters and Colbert fans is pretty significant, so this should be an especially bitter pill for them to swallow.

I think that people who think that Anita is not just pushing an agenda would find them interesting. Basically, misogyny and the patriarchy is the real cause of tragic shootings according to Anita.
@bigsocrates: Yup. Jim Sterling broke down this phenomenon almost exactly two years ago. She was doing youtube videos for a tiny, mainly academic audience for a good while before her Kickstarter. Everyone who doesn't agree with her message should have had the sense to ignore her rather than freak out like she was the second coming of Jack Thompson. The mob mentality histrionics inspired certain unstable people to make death threats, and this cycle keeps making her more and more famous. Amplifying her message more and more. It's the people who wanted to silence her who've kept at it until she is now nationally famous. Way to go.
@adequatelyprepared: Everyone in the world is "pushing an agenda." The tweets you're talking about were about a school shooting which was explicitly caused by a boy being rejected by a girl. There is nothing wrong with asking how society's idea of masculinity contributes to the toxicity in which men treat women. The views she expressed aren't all that interesting actually. They're pretty obvious.

Yeah it was pretty much centered on that particular case which happened recently.
It's cool that opposition to video game misogyny is getting a mainstream audience but don't make this an excuse to forgive Colbert for being a racist transphobic scumbag.
I've never really made up my mind on her one way or the other, which perhaps in its own way is having made up my mind. But regardless I'm glad she is getting on the show, who knows what she'll focus on, or what his question will be, but the more the harassment bullshit gets talked about, the better, I think, I hope.
At the very least it will feel less lonely, I was starting to feel like the only people reporting on any of this was, well, gaming sites, It is nice to have more exposure in general. Don't know if it would actually accomplish anything or not though.
@yurimegumi: ...You do realize that his entire show is a satirical act, right?
That's interesting. I'm not sure it will help the issue, considering the short time of the interviews and the satirical tinge of it, but it will obviously give great exposure.
I tend to disagree with her for the most part, but that Gamergate shit needs to be shut the fuck down. Unfortunately, a lot of the "outside world" will look at this and see all gamers that way (possibly?)
@audiobusting: I'm not sure about the racist part, but he's made some pretty transphobic jokes.

Bigotry isn't funny, it's just bigotry

uh, what?
@teaoverlord: I believe he made fun of a racist organization by making up another racist organization one time, maybe he did more than that.
Edit: right, that bit up there was it. He dedicated a whole segment to apologize for that on a later episode, I think.
I think having her on the show is a stroke of genius, the "Stephen Colbert" character is pretty much the embodiment of Gamergate already, so having Sarkeesian "debate" him seems like a win-win for everybody.
Oh great a terrible example of feminism gets mainstream attention. Are all those assholes attacking her happy now?

No they aren't and all they're probably gonna do is attack her even more because she was on this. Idiots don't learn lessons.

Well if you look at someone like Elliot Rodger or all the other shooters who have written manifestos about bullying and girls not looking their way it's not hard to draw those connections. Tho I wouldn't say that's all of it, it plays a part.
Colbert's character is good at maintaining the absurd fiction during segments and his talking points but I'm not a fan of his style of interview, which I've usually seen as being undertaken in the form of blatant agenda pushing in favor of whomever his guest is. I'm not interested in tuning in regardless of who his guest is, regardless of how connected/relevant she is to video games at the moment.
@milkman: You get the hell out of here with your "facts" and your "reality"!
@adequatelyprepared: I mean, in some cases the killers pretty much say as much straight-up...

I agree, sexism in gaming is something that should be talked about but Anita shouldn't be involved in the discussion.
@hone_mcbone: She should be included. Everyone should be included if they want to be.

I wouldn't go so far as to say she shouldn't be involved. I just wish that somebody who was less crummy at analyzing these issues were the person getting all this publicity. Of course, I don't really know who that person would be, so...
@spoonman671: Unfortunately she brings along so much negativity with her from both sides that no points are getting through, I feel if she was concerned with the issue she would distance herself from the debate. I'd really rather the were points brought up & debated in some way with people inside & outside of the industry.
