Films have many avenues to make their money back:
1. Cinemas, all around the world.
2. DVDs.
3. TV, network, cable.
Videogames have:
1. Physical CD/DVD copies
2. Downloadable
BUT, DVDs cost more than a film ticket. So, it doesn't take many DVDs sold to make a film's budget back.
Games cost around $60. It's too much of a hardcore thing to buy more than 1 game a month, or even year. Game budgets RIGHT NOW are on the levels of films already.
Then there's the whole used game market, which is way more huge for videogames (because of the $60 thing) than films. None of used copy profit goes to developers' pockets. Is there any other solution than, making all games downloable? Therefore, negating used copies market that only goes to game store profits? I love me some physical copies of games, so what's the future for high-profile videogames to make their money back (Heavy Rain coming soon)???
Any ways for videogames to make their money back, from budget?
