Anyone else find it funny that Capcom..
" @Jethuty said:Dude, reread the response, i called MYSELF simple, and if i insulted anyone, i most certainly insulted myself." @Undeadpool said:This is where we differ. You've once AGAIN insulted me (calling me "simple") where I haven't once done that to you. Again and again I've said and demonstrated that all I want is to have a rational discussion and that I'm open to your way of thinking. Yet you call me a dumbass, you make wild, baseless claims, and you say that I don't "get" a two-dimensional character. And I said earlier that Dante is an extremely shallow character within the confines of four whole games. I know there've been novels, I know there've been anime, but if you can't tell a deeper story across four whole games, then the apocrypha isn't worth reading/viewing in my mind. It's the same argument I get with Chris Redfield, quite frankly. Sure, he's a completely blank everyman with absurd musculature and no defining characteristics (beyond "loyalty," which is the easiest thing in videogames to fake), but if I only read the novels/watched the anime, I'd see what a deep and resonant character he is. There have been plenty of games that have made me care more about a vast list of characters in one single game than I have cared about Dante across multiple games. Do I think he's a cool bad ass? Absolutely. Do I think that several hour and a half long movies accomplish the same thing? Yep." @Jethuty said:i really dont know where you are coming from with the whole dante being shallow thing, but most people here apparently perceive him that way, perhaps im just a simple man, liking simple thing." @Undeadpool said:DMC1 was great, but they did nothing with it. They had made a bad ass who was an extremely shallow character, which COULD have worked, and they absolutely SHIT on it in the second iteration. Something I loved about the first was Dante's shit-talking in the face of a vastly more menacing foe. It's something I feel they haven't captured properly since the first game since they were too busy trying to make him way more serious. The third was great, it was a cool origin. The fourth? I actually liked Nero, but he was still just a palette swap." @Jethuty said:i thought DMC1, RE4, Godhand and Viewtiful joe were original ideas." @Undeadpool said:No. They wouldn't keep Dante the exact same. If they were asked to "remake" Devil May Cry, I imagine they'd change it up." @Jethuty: No, you wouldn't. Because Platinum would change the character just as much. Because Capcom would demand that they change it.No, they wouldnt? And don't direct me to novels or anime or any of the apocrypha. If a character can't become interesting and three-dimensional in four entire games, then I'm not going to read a book or watch an anime based on that character. And again, that's been Mario's agenda for thirty years, he began before games really COULD tell any kind of story and he's endured due to a mixture of fond nostalgia and an unheard of track record for quality within this business.I'm not saying every character needs to be William Munny, but if someone's going to go to bat for that character never changing, then I want to hear WHY. I DO love Dante as a free-wheeling, demonically murderous party-animal (I used to call my manager on the in-store phone where I worked years ago and say "This party's gettin' CRAZY!!" when I needed his help at the front), but his shallow nature means that I'm not going to be terribly attached to the character, so I'm not going to care over much when they change him."thats all i basicly have to say.You do know that Shinji mikami made dante right? The whole "Capcom wanted to change Dante, WE DIDNT" is just a lame way to save face from Ninja theory."I am aware of the great Shinji Mikami having created Dante. And where is he now? Doing his own thing without the crushing oversight of Capcom? Creating absolutely original and hilariously incredible IPs along with the madman Suda51? It really seems like Capcom would try to distance themselves from this if they were somehow "ashamed" of where Ninja Theory had taken this. Particularly since it's their response to the backlash."But again im just one duder."RE4? Amazing! Leon Kennedy goes to the School for Badasses and emerges a new man. But it was also a completely new take on Resident Evil that was derided as betraying the originals. And RE5...oy.Viewtiful Joe was INCREDIBLE, but what have they done with the character? Stuck him in some cameos and MvC3?I respect your opinion. You are just one duder, but hey, so am I. I concede that I might be wrong and Ninja Theory MIGHT screw this up, but frankly it's as much of a risk as Capcom screwing it up again."Believe me, i would like nothing else more than Ninja theory making a kickass game and one kickass DMC game in particular, but looking from the track record of NT and what they have done so far, i believe that the future of DMC looks really grim.also Capcom have been wasting pretty much all of Clover studios ips, which might as well be, as they didnt sell well and would have to be changed so drastically, to the point that wewouldnt be able recognize the franchises.i will be blaming Capcom and NT EQUALLY if DmC becomes a trainwreck.""
Oddly enough, I thought that would piss you off. That's why I posted it. Maybe I should just let DMC4 insult itself:
More animes need to do that, take the focus away from the uber-powerful hero, and show some humanity so it relates better. Seriously, if Dante was the star for each episode that shit would get boring quick, he ends every fight in the anime in about 20 seconds.
I'd name an anime that does what you're thinking of poorly, but then I'd remember that I don't watch anime. I probably would if [adult swim] had a "first episode of everything" weekend, so I could get into some of the plots.
eh dude, whatever, i was dealing with 3 people ganging up on me, so dont take it that personally. And i didnt mean the fact that you didnt get the mario reference in any insulting way, i just thought you either didnt listen or didnt really care. Also im sorry if i did jumped to any conclusions about you not having played any of the games, it just didnt appear that clearly. As you may know people on the internet like to make shit up, yo ;)" @xobballox: WHOOP! So he did. Well, can't edit that away, so I'll just take my medicine.
@Jethuty: You didn't do it directly, but your implication that I'd never played a DMC game and that I didn't "get" the Mario comparison was little...premature in my book. I also didn't comment on you bringing up Godhand, which I think is an INCREDIBLE, if not obscenely difficult, game. Honestly, this Asura game looks a lot like Godhand and that has me stoked for it.
I know you didn't mention Chris, that was me getting ahead of myself. I remember seeing a thread about Leon Kennedy where he was massively disparaged because RE4 was so unlike its predecessors in both gameplay and alleged character development. It just brought up the same issues of a character not being developed within his own franchise and that somehow being ok.
I'm also not sure what you mean by me sending the "same replies." I'm not double sending messages, if that's what you mean. And if I sent anything twice to you, it was because I didn't want to edit or delete to make myself look clever before I posted a reply.
"
Also the whole leon kennedy is a whole different thing. i would be totally cool with NT handling DMC if they were doing it the same way RE4 was done. Keep in mind that leon is not chris redesigned and his orgin is not altered and he is set in a totally different setting, while tying into the series. If they just made Dante a different character and didnt alter EVERYTHING the previous games had established i would be totally fine with it.
also, yes you are sending me double messages. Both my GB account and email is confirming it mate.
Godhand was downright cheap at times, but that was the design at the time. i think its super awesome that you are stoked for Asuras wrath and actually played godhand. See how much more civilized the debate became when you no longer have people with huge egos talking about stuff they have no knowledge or intrest in? :)
" @Video_Game_King: You know, I should hate the DMC anime but I enjoy it because I get what they wanted to do. It's so damn hard to make Dante the focal character for 20+ minutes each episode, so I liked how each episode was a story about random people and why they come to Dante. More animes need to do that, take the focus away from the uber-powerful hero, and show some humanity so it relates better. Seriously, if Dante was the star for each episode that shit would get boring quick, he ends every fight in the anime in about 20 seconds. "i think that is what made it work too. It was far from perfect but i understand how hard it is to deal with such a powerful character whose "powerlevel" is so hard to pinpoint.
