Here is what i know of card games, outside euchre, poker, hearts, etc, NOTHING. Zero. Zilch. Now, i know of Magic, its gathering and popularity but my interest(love the art) really as grown since watching the quicklooks of late, and now i saw this early access game on Steam the other day, Ironclad tactics, which is more in my wheel house. I just was wondering if anyone else got that vibe that card games, i dont think they ever went anywhere, are seeing a resurgence and are becoming more mainstream.

They are for sure. You got plenty of new card games out and in development. Not surprising considering more and more games go F2P, and card games with their booster packs are ideal for this model.

Card games that don't involve actually getting together to play with other people with physical cards are having a "resurgence"

I've touted it on these forums before, I'll tout it again: Sentinels of the Multiverse is sheer unadulterated awesome! It's completely taken over my buddies' and my game night. I guess they're working on an electronic version for sometime next year.

I totally know what you mean! After watching the Hearthstone quicklook, trying to download Hearthstone, and then realizing Hearthstone's not an open beta and I'm never going to get in, I ended up downloading the Magic: the Gathering game on my 360 and playing it for the past week, and now I'm almost thinking of getting my box of cards back out of the basement.

It's weird. Anything Blizzard does becomes popular again!!

Does that scene exist anymore outside of Magic?

@angrighandi: Was mostly Magic's whole program that caused the resurgence; Blizzard is just making a much more appealing version; sort of like how Warcraft wasn't the first RTS, Diablo wasn't a totally original game, and World of Warcraft wasn't even an early MMO.

I only very recently gave up card games. I could never wrap my head around the strategies needed to play Magic well, and Yu Gi Oh has been destroyed by power creep. So I don't feel like they are necessarily "back" but I have been enjoying all these new digital card games since you don't need to play 10-15$ up front to try them out plus I got used to the idea of paying for booster packs years ago.

Yea when were they not? Magic cards still get sold out in my town and we are kinda in an area that just doesn't have that audience or it least it seems like it but they get sold out constantly so yea CCGs roll on baby.

They never really went anywhere, though they are becoming much more popular digitally thanks to the rise of free to play.

They were never gone, honestly.
