Are guest columns also for people without a huge body of work?

Asking because I fall into this category, hard. I've been following the site for a long while now; (I don't post much, though.) back to the days where I was seriously considering games writing as a career. Things didn't pan out as I'd hoped, so I put games-related stuff on the back burner to become a Boring Office Guy. I'm hesitant to submit a pitch because the guest contributors so far have a level of pedigree that I don't. I mean, I've applied to RPS, The Escapist, and Kotaku for news writing positions, but I was never able to make the cut.

I know I have stories to tell, and something to contribute to discussions about games, but now that I'm 30, it feels like I'm yelling into a bottomless pit.

Is there consideration for people like me, or will someone who's had a bunch of freelance columns published at Kotaku and the like always be at an advantage over someone who's never had their break?

@musai: You'd be better off asking the staff directly on Twitter, or PM them, or something, than to ask us. Austin, specifically. It seems like they're open to freelancers in general, but I'm not Austin.

I seem to recall Austin specifically answering this question on Twitter back when it was announced. (I believe the answer was yes.)

That was me (at least, I did ask the question)! Specifically I asked if people who weren't known for writing elsewhere could submit articles. His reply was that he was considering people who aren't KNOWN, but they need to have published some stuff elsewhere for reasons beyond his control. You should also check his timeline about people offering to work for exposure.
