I have a ps3 that plays ps2 games, what jrpgs are there for those systems that are good and have either a lower difficulty setting or very little grind. For what it worth one of my favorite series is kingdom hearts and I preferred Crisis Core to FF7
Are there any jrpgs with a good story and minimal grind.
Chrono Cross for PS1 has zero grind (you level up after beating a boss).
If you figure out how to beat the system early, Shadow Hearts Covenant (PS2) is also a good option, but it destroys conventions people take for granted in JRPGs. For that I love it, but I don't know if it is what you are looking for.
anything else would be stretching it. I mean you don't have to grind so much if FFX or FF X-2, but that time will be spent in half-bad cut scenes that are too long most of the time.
Been so long since I played them, so I can't really remember how much "grind" is involved, but I second the mention of Shadow Hearts. I really enjoy Shadow Hearts 1 and 2. Others I can think of as some of my favorites can have a decent amount of grind. Persona 3 and 4, Dragon Quest VIII, etc.
Edit: Thought of one. Dark Cloud 2. Again, I can't really remember how "grindy" it was, but it does have a real time combat system. So, the combat is closer to what Kingdom Hearts does.
@kashif1: Anyone who tells you bad things about Chrono Cross is just stuck on nostalgia for Chrono Trigger. I love Chrono Cross and played through it again not too long ago. It has a massive cast of quirky characters and while the story isn't incredible because a lot of time is spent recruiting and such, the world is beautiful, though there are a couple pretty great moments. I wouldn't say there's 0 grind, I fought enemies and you do gain bonuses from fighting enemies, not just bosses, but there's no random battles so they're all skippable. Also, the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard. Or, you know, Chrono Trigger.

If you qualify Valkyria Chronicles as JRPG, then yes.
Otherwise, no on both counts.
Or this. That game was better and way more serious than I expected from the style of the game. Not to say the style is bad, I love everything about the way that game looks.
I would say the story from Chrono Cross actually was quite incredible for a video game story. Probably not as good as Chrono Trigger's, but still really good and a worthy sequel.@kashif1: Anyone who tells you bad things about Chrono Cross is just stuck on nostalgia for Chrono Trigger. but then I realized he said his favorite JRPG is kingdom hearts so this is a perfect suggestion
I think you're trying to be condescending.
I don't know. At least Kingdom Hearts wasn't on auto pilot. You can at least give it that much credit?@Cloudenvy said:

The only reason I didn't recommend the first one is that it seems to be a really rare game now... (Looking online, both aren't cheap by a long shot). The third game isn't bad, but it has more of a grind and it isn't a direct continuation of the first two games.
I haven't played it, but apparently Xenoblade Chronicles is an awesome game. It's only out in Japan and Europe, though, so I don't know if you can play it.

Dry Ice. Despite it being frozen CO2, I felt the need to say it.Is there any water that's dry and solid like a brick?
FF13 is adventure-action, just go Star Ocean Last Hope International. Play with Japanese Voices if you want to keep your sanity and switch to Japanese style UI for more eye-friendly graphics. There's an infinite amount of JRPG in it compared to FF13, even has end-game dungeons and a sort of newgame+ if I heard things right.
The Tales of Eternia/Destiny/Abyss...type of games tend to be more action than RPG. But for some tend to be to childish. I LOVE them though
The Yakuza games.
I can't get over how good it is. I'm posting about it every chance I get :P
@satansmagichat: Final Fantasy one (and two and three) have almost no story are are still fun the first persona has a story but has TONS of grinding.
edit: also blue dragon.
@Hailinel: I was replying to a question about games with lots of grinding, I assumed high grinding was implied.
It's still a good selection though: The side-quests are virtually not required. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that his disinterest in grinding, is that he gets tired from having to do a monotonous task over-and-over again in-order to progress. You could virtually ignore the quests in Nier and progress. So it shall go on-to the list!@Solidsnak said:
play nier, you should be able to get it cheap
I love Nier, but he said no grind. Even if the main quest line is piss easy, the side quests take a forever amount of grinding.
*writes Nier down with permanent pen*
This is the part where I get on a ledge and scream Xenoblade at your face until I get blue, sadly that's on Wii, plus you need to hack it/emulate if you want to play it in North America. Then there's Lost Odyssey with it's level-cap, but that's on 360...
Even so, the good news is that looking at your platform preference, it should be noted you have a ton of selections. Final Fantasy XIII sounds right up your alley regarding your tastes. In regards to your interests of real-time battle systems, there's the Star Ocean franchise and stuff Level-5 has done including Rogue Galaxy.

It was a bad analogy, but don't sit there and tell me that normal ice is dry.
