I have playing a lot of loot based games recently and managing the inventory is starting to get on my nerves. I know why games do this and most of the time it works, but I am sick of having to run back & sell junk due to and encumbrance or only having limited room to store stuff back at base.

So the thought came to me if there was any games out there where you can carry as much as you want or they have a place where you can dump everything and organise it later. I just wonder if someone has tried to design the 'loot system' and inventory in a different way and I want to give it a go regardless if they succeeded or not.

I know Skyrim comes screaming from others peoples mouth's at me as the first answer ( I could rebuy it on the PC and mod it I guess) but maybe there are other options out there. Can you think of anything?

I wouldn't say Skyrim is that at all (unless you just change your carry weight to over 6000).

You don't even need to mod Skyrim for weight limits, or any relatively recent Bethesda RPG. First thing I did in Fallout 3 / New Vegas and Skyrim was use the command console to jack up the weight limit to such a large amount that I never needed to care about it again.

But other than those I can't really think of any off the top of my head.

KotOR and KotOR 2 both have unlimited inventory space. Those are the only two games I can think of off the top of my head that have it without changing some variable in the console or installing a mod.

I'd argue nearly any JRPG has no inventory limit due to weight. The usual limit is probably 99 per item but that's about it.

I know that I played through the entirety of Dark Souls 2 without ever using the item box. I agree though, inventory limits are pretty annoying in a loot based game. I had to constantly empty out my bag in Dragon Age 2 cus it kept giving me all this crap.

@the_ruiner: Mass Effect does have a limit, if I recall correctly.

I think you all have spotted a blind spot in my gaming history that I have missed, should go play some more JRPG's.

There has to be another way of managing loot, the biggest advancement I can think of recently has to be a symbol representing that it's junk or auto-sell junk. There is a game in this somewhere, someone could design something, might have to think about it some more.

The Gothic games and the Risen games have no inventory limit.

I think loot based games kind of have to have an inventory limit, else you eventually end up with such an unwieldly amount of items that it would be impossible to manage them all.

Your average JRPG generally relies more on buying gear at shops or finding them in chests (with pre-set loot), so it's much easier to let you carry everything. There's usually a finite amount of items in the game, unlike say, Diablo.

games that don't inundate you with useless shit tend not to have an inventory limit
