Awesome/funny gaming podcasts?
If you are looking for funny gaming podcasts, in addition to the remarkable Giant Bombcast, you'll want to take a listen to the CAGcast from Cheap Ass Gamer and the Joystiq Podcast. The CAGcast is funny due to the interplay between hosts CheapyD and Wombat. The guys at the Joystiq Podcast are just silly sometimes and it turns out funny. Two others that are often humorous once you've listened to their shows for a while and understand the hosts are Orange Lounge Radio and the Gamercast Network Presents The Video Game Show. Like the CAGcast, both are about the relationships between the hosts. Orange Lounge Radio is definitely more personality-driven as hosts Rob (aka Skye) , Matt (aka Loki) and Jamie (aka DarkSakura) rundown the weeks news, give their impressions of games, take calls from the listening audience, etc. OLR is "broadcast" live each Sunday night at AllGames.com. The group has been doing this for six years, so it's very casual at this point. The Video Game Show is a much shorter podcast than OLR's weekly 2-3 hour bonanza. VGS runs about 30 minutes each week thanks to tight editing. The show runs down news and listener emails like most, but the hosts are always cracking jokes and making fun of each other throughout the recording. Unlike CAGcast, Joystiq or Orange Lounge, this one is bite-sized (by comparison) entertainment,
If you are looking for something that is hilariously funny but you don't mind that it's not current, then you need to go back and listen to the Games for Windows Podcast from 1UP.com, aka GFW Radio aka "The Brodio". Nothing will ever be as funny as this "perfect storm" of podcasting hosts. Sadly, when the magazine folded, the guys went their separate ways. Jeff Green now runs the EA Podcast for EA Games. Shawn Eliott hosts the Out of the Game podcast and works at Irrational Games. Ryan Scott and Anthony Gallegos both work for Gamespy these days and host their own separte shows ( Geekbox & Rebel FM) in addition to the Gamespy Debriefings. And, Robert Ashley periodically hosts show A Life Well Wasted. It should be noted that Elliot's Out of the Game sometimes gathers members back together depending on their schedule and the group reunited at last year's PAX.
Old 1Up Yours with Garnett Lee and John Davison and Shane Bettenhausen were good, too but except for John Davsion who often guests over at 4Guy 1Up podcast, the other two aren't podcasting anymore. Garnett Lee is at Gamefly Media and Shane is at Ignition Entertainment. And while 4Guys 1Up is an okay show, I prefer 1Ups the Oddcast these days.
A new one (just this week) is the 8-4play podcast (hosted at 1up.com)
Also Weekend Confirmed is a good one (find that at shacknews)
I would like to point out the irrational behavior podcast, for those interested in stories form the developer side, http://www.castmedium.com/shows/irrational-behavior/ . And it doesn't hurt that the are hosted by Shawn Elliot. For those who like GFW Radio, out of the game and life well wasted this is well worth listening to.
