Best games of 1991 (20 years ago holy shit)

Hey! It's game of the year season for gaming publications everywhere, but...

Let's try and list some of the very best games of 1991! That shit was 20 years ago!

Here are some of my candidates. I'm not listing Zelda because LTTP came out in 1992 in the west. These are western release date-based.

Lemmings

MI2 and Lemmings are both great games.

Oh yeah definitely useful for finding out whether a game came out in 1991 or not! Don't get me wrong. I thought you were pointing me in a direction of a Wiki instead of this thread, sorry :D

Super Mario World is one of my all-time favorite games, so it gets my vote. Of course, I wan't even born til 93.

FFIV and Street Fighter are both great picks.

My GOTYs list says Lemmings. Good job.

Super Mario World shits on all of those, Sonic would be in second followed by FFIV. I remember the Genesis vs SNES console wars back in the day. Who ever thought Genesis was better than SNES has no idea what quality games are. I owned both though because I liked Sonic.

I've got pretty fond memories of all of those games. Except Lemmings; fuck Lemmings.

I didn't play it when it came out, but Gun Nac is a great game. Like Parodius, but for Compile shooters.

I would also like to express my fondest memories regarding Quackshot for the Genesis and Star Wars for the NES. I played so much Star Wars on the NES.

As a kind of related-unrelated story, a few years back I got a friend of mine a copy of Action 52 for his birthday. After about 45 minutes of playing, during which the cart behaved about as normally as you could hope for (given the game in question), we noticed that there was a faint smell of burning plastic. Upon realizing that it was coming from Action 52, we also came to realize that the cartridge had become extremely hot. I don't think the cart was too badly damaged, but I don't really know, because after that he decided that it was time to stop playing Action 52.

fuck lemmings, but I was born in '91 so hurray for the best year of all time.

I loved Out of this World. I got it for Christmas and played it eleven hours straight.

Wing Commander II... That is all.

I'd have to go with Sonic the Hedgehog.

I played it a ton back then. Weird to think that was 20 years ago. Wow do I feel old.

I have great memories with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time. I played that using an emulator even up until last year.

If you're into flight sims, Night Hawk: F-117a Stealth Fighter 2.0 was released in 1991. It's literally THE first game I ever owned on a PC and remains one of my favourite games of all time.

Man, Gunship 2000 was also a 91 release? I spent a lot more time gaming in 91 than I originally thought.

i don't know any. i remember playing contra, ninja turtles, when i was younger with a NES.
