Baldur's Gate 2
Best RPG Ever Made?
Final Fantasy X was the downfall of FF games, if you're going to include any from that series as "best RPG of all time" then it's either VI or VII.
Also, as much as I loved Dragon Quest IV, it's hardly regarded the pinnacle of the series. From the older games, V is more universally praised and VIII is pretty much universally thought of as the best.
And sorry, but my vote would go to Baldurs Gate 2, Mass Effect, the Witcher or Morrowind.
That list is severely lacking in so many necessary selections.
Icewind Dale? Divinity? Hell, ANY Infinity Engine game?!
Final Fantasy IV or VI? Suikoden II? Shining Force II? Any Matsuno game OTHER than FFT? Secret of Mana?
Any of the Souls games? Dark Cloud series? Skies of Arcadia? Legend of Dragoon? Tales of Symphonia?
I just...my head wants to explode.
FF6 & Baldur's Gate 2 are both overrated imo. the original BG was superior if you want to include that series.
FF X-2 is when Final Fantasy went downhill, not X. stop confusing the twoX-2 is when they started milking the series for every last penny. X was when they stopped with the classic story telling and gameplay and began to focus on teen melodrama.
Baldurs Gate 2 was a direct continuation to the original, the two games and their expansion packs essentially make up one big game. 2 just added a bigger story, much more areas and things to do.. I'm not really sure how you could consider the first superior, but the series should have been on the list regardless.
Nice of you to provide a diverse range of options in the poll...
Uh, anyway:
J: Mother 3
W: System Shock 2
FFVIII is when melodrama & altered gameplay were included, not that FF8 was a bad game, but if you really prefer classic Final Fantasy, I suggest II/IV/V/or VII. Still FF Tactics & FFX are the best in the franchise, & I only list the best.

I'm not a big RPG guy, and even I can tell that selection is laughable.
I am a big RPG guy, and I completely agree.
I considered Mother 3 & Dragon Warrior III to be on the poll, but Earthbound & Dragon Warrior IV won by slight margins.
Wow. This list is soooo terribly lacking. This poll has to be what? "Best RPG out of OP's Favorite RPGs that are Old Enough to Satisfy Some Unwritten Rule"?
I've been playing RPGs since Zelda on the NES and only a couple of these are even viable options, and certainly the best ever isn't on this list. And IMO, the best game ever made ever ever happens to be an action RPG.
A game does not have to be old to be the BEST EVER. Else what a disappointing future is in store for us gamers. A game doesn't have to be old to be worthy, it just has to be awesome, most awesome to be precise.
