Beyondpod has become a piece of crap, what android podcast apps do people use?

A couple of days ago BeyondPod stopped downloading episodes of several podcasts....tried the beta and that seems to have even more problems even though they've said they expect that to release to public next week, so wondered what apps do people use?

Few features I need:

Ability to keep multiple episodes of the same show (always behind)

Ability to work with password protected podcasts such as Premium shows on here.

Robust Playlist functionality

Auto downloading

I already tried pocket casts and already got a refund.... Not a fan at all.

I use DoggCatcher.

Not sure about Playlists (which I don't use), but ticks all the other boxes.

@flameboy84: I use Pocket Casts and like it. Out of curiosity, what turned you off of it?

@samaroo22: just wasn't a fan of the way it displays and couldn't easier figure out how to categorize podcasts and create playlists.

Doggcatcher feels more like what I'm using.

Yeah, not sure what is going on with BeyondPod. It seems to be falling apart. I downloaded Pocketcasts and am enjoying it so far.

I use Podcast Addict. It has all the features you want and is a 5 star rated app that has never broken down for me in the 3-5 years i use it.

I also use Podcast Addict. It's got everything you need and has been great for me. Has ads if you use it for free but they're incredibly unobtrusive, just a small banner at the bottom of the screen.

Another shout for Doggcatcher - it does everything you're looking for, I think. That said, it was the first podcast app I landed on, I liked it and I haven't tried any others, so there may be better options out there.

I've been using Pocket Casts and have had no issues with it.

I've gone back to try pocket casts how do I add the giant bomb premium podcasts I can't seem to find a password field

I use Pocket Casts but unless it exists and I've just never searched for it, it doesn't do auto-downloading I think.

+1 for Podcast Addict. Though I haven't used much else that I could compare it to, I really love how out-of-the-way it stays.

@brendan: i used it briefly, and im pretty certain there was an option for it.

Yeah I think I'm actually going to buy this, Apple Podcasts is easily the worst user experience since itunes.

Yeah there is an auto download option on pocketcasts not a clue how often it's checking and downloading. I ended up importing beyondpod subscriptions and then manually downloaded.

Googleplay, doggie

It has an Auto-Download feature and you can set it so it only downloads when you are on wifi.

It's a great app and if you are willing to pony up a one time fee (I think it's 9.99) you can sync with a web browser. It works mostly well with syncing between devices and web but totally worth it to be able to switch on the fly.

You probably want podcast addict with those requirements.

For others who are passing by:

Spotify is pretty OK if you just want the bombcast and beastcast and don't mind waiting until spotify grabs the new episode. Nice if you don't want to bother with managing mp3s and just want to stream and cache. You can also transfer from listening to desktop and vice versa. It's real good if you just want to listen to a bunch of old ones and don't want to download a whole bunch of mp3s.

I've also been using podcast addict.

Auto downloads, premium stream support, keeps as many old podcast as you wish. Also good Android Auto integration, if you care about such things.

@flameboy84: If you're still trying to add premium podcasts, go to this thread: https://www.giantbomb.com/forums/bombcast-32/adding-premium-podcast-feed-onto-overcast-podcast--1493652/#76 . The instructions should work for any premium podcast XML feed.

@flameboy84: I recommend Podkicker, if you haven't picked out a new app yet. Ads on the bottom of the screen, but I went Pro a long time ago and haven't regretted it.

PocketCasts has served me well for a few years.

I love podcast addict. Lots of customization options amd all the features you mentioned.
