Black Mesa: Source gameplay video....eh...
The voice acting... eh.... I've heard worse. I mean, a lot of the voice-acting in the original wasn't that great anyway, but it's a shame that they couldn't get some awesome voiceover in the update.
Iron sights isn't really a big deal to me, besides the glaringly obvious question of why they are in there in the first place. It's not like other games where moving around screws up your accuracy. The point of ADS in games is to trade mobility and field of view for accuracy, but it doesn't seem like it gives many benefits for the tradeoff in a game like Half-life.
The VO work is awful and the Iron Sights are unnecessary, but the game really looks pretty great at least!
I bet someone on these forums could make that happen using that video, have him talk and make the music super sexy.@ZeForgotten said:
"Get thisss. They say........ he was at ground zerooooo" God, the voice acting.Sexiest and smoothest voice for a soldier ever. Would pay for saxo background music DLC to go with it.
I know what to do, We must be able to turn voices off, right? Just roll with (hopefully) subtitles. That'd be better than the alternative, I think.
Man, I like this video just because it reminds me why I never liked single player shooters back then. Except for Deus Ex, but then that really wasn't a shooter was it?
Iron sites are fine. If that was all they changed, fine. But I was sold on a 'prettification' of the original game, and it's become more and more of a "re-imagining" which is a bummer. It looks very little like the original beyond the weapons.
That's not the same iron sight in function as the contemporary fps's. As far as I can tell magnum does have perfect accuracy "from the hip", and iron sight is just a visual indication of the zoom function.
But wow, voices are so bad. I know it's a fan mode but geez. Looks really cool though.
You are not forced to use it, I think. The second it went into iron sights, I stopped the video. I am no longer interested in Black Mesa.
As far as I can tell it does absolutely nothing at all other than zoom in (just like the Zoom did in HL1) but it has Iron Sights added to it just to look fancy.
I don't know, the cornyness makes it work for me. It's bad, but I can't not smile every time I hear it.

We aaa the revaluuutionary group called The Reapaaars.
They should not be fucking making changes.
Iron sights and terrible VO? I'll just play the original (with the CS guns mod, but that's just because I've finished it a billion times)
The level design looks a bit changed. The graphics look pretty damned good, especially for a fan mod. And I'm A-OK with iron sights - in fact, I'll probably use them a good bit.
The voice acting, by the way, doesn't seem much worse than the original's. No, really, go back and play it - the voice acting in the original game was pretty bad as well. Either way, the bad voice acting in this game doesn't bother me much at all.
How could you be mad at the iron sights? The weapons seem to work just as they would in the original when fired from the hip, surely they won't force you to use it. The guy even played through the majority of that video with the cross hairs
Just seems like irrational, " I hate dem Call of Dutys games so I must hate anything that reminds me of them"
The voice acting didn't sound that bad to me. It sounded like they were intentionally doing a "crappy job" to get that b-movie type feeling you know. I respect games that don't take themselves too seriously.
I liked the vibes I got from this video, will definitely play.
Yeah I think most people are looking at this with rose-tinted glasses.Did any of you play the original Half-Life recently? It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I can't blind myself to how cheesy the voice acting is.
Well, you guys seem pretty negative, but I think this looks fucking fantastic.
Obviously the graphics aren't going to be 2012 PC game spec, but they are easily up to par with Episode 2. Which is damn impressive for a mod.
Yeah the voice acting isn't fantastic (though I have heard MUCH worse), and the iron sights aren't necessary, but eh, who really cares? You don't have to use the iron sights, the guns still function exactly the same without using them.
It doesn't look bad at all. Go back and listen to some Half-life VO and then listen to this again. I think some of you are nostaligia'ing too hard. The rest of it looks just fine as well. All I really expected out of it was a graphical update and they seem to be delivering on that front.

I don't know... Half Life without gibs just doesn't have the same vibe.
How did you feel about half life 2?
It was great! But that game was never meant to have gibs. It was all about physics-based action and a big, adventurous story.
The original game, on the other hand, was more of a creepy horror-movie type setting. So all the nasty blood and gore felt totally appropriate, and kind of necessary toward making you feel threatened.
In a way, all the tonal differences between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 can be boiled down to the fact that one has gibs and the other doesn't. So remaking Half-Life without the gibs makes it seem like some kind of weird "edited for PG-13" version of the original game.
