Burger - a New iPhone App for Giant Bomb Videos and Wiki Browsing!

Hey duders, my buddy Josh (thingdeux) and I are happy to announce the release of our iOS app — Burger! It is already available on the app store, and is completely free: no ads, no in app purchases.

*It does require a Giant Bomb account to use (free or premium).

How it was created:

It started with Josh and I wanting a side project to sharpen our skills in certain areas of app development. We both love Giant Bomb and the API was pretty easy to work with, so it made sense to us to create a stylish video browser/player for Giant Bomb’s videos. As we developed it, we both became more passionate about it and began to expand the scope of what we wanted from the app. This first version has a lot of great features, and we’ve got some more planned for the future.

Features:

• Convenient Video Browsing (Sorted by latest, continue watching, premium, and show titles).
• Play videos directly on your device, or on a Chromecast or other Google Cast compatible device/TV.
  • Note on Stream Quality: Google Cast works best with Low & High quality streams. If you notice hiccups in your cast playback, try reducing stream quality.

• Watch something at GiantBomb.com or in the app: playback position will stay in sync between both.
• Liberal use of emoji.
• Search (Videos and wiki stuff).
• Nice wiki views with lots of detail on games, characters, and people in game development. Save screenshots, get lost in links.
• Subtle, yet persistent burger themed background pattern.

Version 1.0.1 is out - Fixed an issue where audio would not play if device was on vibrate.

Love the app, it'll probably replace Video Buddy for me if you can add video downloads.

An android version would be great.

After using this for a few weeks, I have some feedback:

• Video position isn't synced if streaming to Chromecast and the app isn't open when the video finishes or is paused. Other Chromecast apps seem to be able to do this, hopefully that can be fixed here too.

• Having the growing number of video categories scroll across the top of the screen is kinda uncomfortable design. As phones get larger, I feel like this would be more comfortable if it was closer to the bottom of the screen. I'd prefer a more easily browsable vertical list, personally.

• It would be nice if the last-used playback quality was remembered, rather than having to set it each time.

• The ability to download videos to watch offline would be great.

Otherwise, this is my preferred app for watching Giant Bomb now.

This and GB Video Buddy are god sends when I commute! Any chance of iPhone X compatibility being added?

I don’t know if this is a Chromecast problem or a Burger problem, but after my Chromecast took the 1.30 update this week, Burger won’t resume a saved playback position anymore. Unwatched videos play fine.

Why can’t I find this anymore on the app store? Can’t find it by search or by a link from Safari.

@smokey_earhole: I was wondering the same thing. Thank goodness I had downloaded it in the past so I was able to re-downloaded it. It’s the only app that works and supports chromecast these days.

I was just looking for this as well and got an error telling me that this app isn't in the US Store.
