Doom?
Calling it now game of the year

@zockroach Doom.
@zockroach: Ahem, it's spelled DOOM.
But, yeah. DOOM.
gonna have to go with the dark horse here, tokyo mirage sessions #FE
I haven't kept up with everything on the site but has anybody mentioned anything about Tokyo Mirage Sessions, aside from Austin doing the Quick Look? I know Jeff mentioned having a copy of it and not playing it.
Which is a real shame, because it's a damn good game that deserves a lot more love than it's getting.
EDIT: But it's not better than Doom.
I think Overwatch probably has a chance to beat it as Game of the Year, but thus far that's about it.
DOOM was GotY within the first 7 minutes. You can't fuck with that opening sequence, you just can't.
Yeah. Doom seems like the obvious pick this year unless something comes out of nowhere. Second place will probably go to Hitman since the site has gotten a shit ton of content from that game and Brad and Dan will both argue strongly for it and as far as I can tell no one seems to dislike it.
I just played DOOM last week and, y'know... I really liked it. It's not going to be my GotY, but I could certainly see them picking it. There's a small chance for Hitman if that last episode does something special, and I guess everyone could suddenly get deep into Stardew Valley. There's also a case to be made for The Witness, but I think the strongest proponents for that on staff are also super into DOOM. I think it'd be a worthy winner if so. There's been a lot of good games this year.
Overwatch should not win if Rocket League and Splatoon were not considered last year. Yeah its a great team based shooter but DOOM is a great re-invention of a series sort of like how MGSV was for its series.
Rocket League was at #3, wasn't it? Also I'd argue Overwatch does at least as much for the team shooter as DOOM does for the single-player FPS.
@justin258: Alex has mentioned Tokyo Mirage Sessions in passing a couple of times. Don't know if he's playing through it though.
There's no other game this year to make a stronger impression on the crew as a whole. Doom is a clear winner.
It seems pretty obvious that either Doom or Overwatch will get it, and although I haven't played any of them, that's fine by me. I don't care about which game gets GOTY, I just love all the extra podcasts.
Also, how fun would it be if Last Guardian turns out to be a dark horse?
It's going to be Doom. 100%. Jeff and Brad on the same team? Yeah, sorry Overwatch you don't stand a chance lol.

It's the shotgun at the end that makes me go FUCK YEAH!!!
Doom. It's the game over which Jeff and Brad will combine powers. Barring some huge surprise in the fall, no other game can boast such an advantage.
Seems like they all loved doom.
And i feel like i'm getting out of touch with games that other people like, I thought doom was alright but I couldn't get through it. Still have a 12gb patch that i don't feel like downloading to even give it another shot.

I fell off Overwatch pretty quickly and despite all these season 2 news and new maps feel no real desire to go back to it.
Some people are just gonna rave about games you don't care about.
I did love every last moment of Doom though and agree that it would definitely deserve to be a Game of the Year in that not only was it a solid game in a year full of broken releases, but such a complete surprise in not only surpassing the mediocre expectations people had of it but blowing them completely off the hinges.
Right now it's DOOM (Jeff and Brad) vs. Overwatch (Dan and Jason definitely, Vinny maybe). Alex is harder to get a read on. I don't think any other game even is in the conversation with the crew. I would not be shocked if DOOM lost by numbers to Overwatch in the end. Vinny seems ready to go to war after last year. The wild card is of course any new person they hire in the next couple months.
Jeff and Brad are the two pushiest people as well as the strongest arguers in the group. If they continue to remain high on DOOM through the end of the year, no other game has a prayer.
@westernwizard: Yeah, with Austin gone I don't see anyone else that would oppose them. Maybe,Dan but I don't really see him digging his heels in on games.
I'm surprised Inside hasn't gotten much love in this thread. I could see it in the top 5 or 3.
@wallee321: Yeah top 3/top 5 is a much more interesting conversation, with games like Hitman, Overwatch, Inside, The Witness, and more I'm forgetting this second vying for spots.
4. Pitcross
Ah, yes, the long-awaited sequel to Pitfall :P
There's already a lengthy topic on current goty predictions
