Okay, so just about everyday I go to Google News and look up 'Uncharted' to see how the game and movie is doing. I've been unhappy as to what the movie rumors have been in the past few months. Well recently, the director, David O'Russell confirmed that he does indeed want to make the story into a crime-boss, Sopranos-esque thing (you can find his interview here). I was indeed upset that not only does he want Mark Wahlberg to play Nate (awful choice) but he wants the story to be like Sopranos. And he believes the game is already like that. More to the point; I Tweet to Naughty Dog, "@Naughty_Dog Is my #Uncharted broken? Because I seriously don't remember any family dynamics in the whole game. What's with that director?" And they come back with: "@solidejake Take literal quotes re: the film out of discussion, you don't think our characters' relationships have some analogies to family?" Can someone help me translate to what they mean? Thank you.
Can somebody help me figure out what Naughty Dog meant by this?
They're saying that the characters in Uncharted arguably have a family dynamic, despite not actually being a family.
IE: Sully could be seen as a father figure to Drake, Flynn could be the disgruntled brother, stuff like that.
also the blue people are like imaginary friends and Zoran was the step-father who likes to beat his kids.
" @Brendan: No disrespect to you, but did you read what the director wants to do to Uncharted? He claims that there will be a crime family that run museums and handle artifacts. Seriously, read that interview I linked. "That was refuted by the director who said he didn't make those comments.
So Nathan Drake is somehow part of an Italian crime family despite his name being Nathan Drake and claiming ancestry to Sir Francis Drake.
The movie should star Ryan Reynolds with Craig T. Nelson as Sully, not Mahk Wahbehg with the cast of Goodfellas.
I'm really excited for the Uncharted Movie. David O. Russell knows how to get a good performance out of Mark Wahlberg and I'd prefer it to be another story involving Nathan Drake as opposed to Uncharted or Uncharted 2's story. The man made Three Kings and Flirting With Disaster, so that gets my vote for him to make a good action movie with comedic elements.
@Brodehouse: Nah, Ed O'Neill for Sully.
Yeah this is stupid... the movie was made for him in the game! I'm sure most people wouldn't mind a copy/paste job.

" @TheFreeMan said:I think that's the right interpretation that Naughty Dog believes but when the actual movie people throw terms like 'they want Robert DeNiro to be the father' around they (again the people making the movie) are not being allegorical. They're going to make it a family to dumb it down for the more profitable masses. The Uncharted movie will be basically a National Treasure movie staring Mark Walburg instead of Nic Cage and John Voight."
