An absolute masterpiece! Fantastic gaming experience that I thought had gone the way of cartridges and wired-controllers. It looked 8-bit, it played like a 2D Metroid game (gameplay that was very reminiscent of Super Metroid), and had a sometimes quirky story. If you like Metroidvania games, then you'll ABSOLUTELY ADORE this game. I can't recommend it enough. Download it and play it!

My only complaints are that it's far too short, I want more! And there was no exploration percentage of completion at the end, like there is on Metroid games. I'd like to know how well I did. I ended with 30 missiles and 45 life energy.

Are there any sequels/prequels?

Not sure, I got it off of Wii Ware, and I've heard that there's 3DS version.

There is a remastered version on Steam. But the original game is freeware.

For real? That costed me 1,200 Wii Points, or $12. Oh well, I would have gladly paid twice that.

@BurningDoom1: I'm not sure if it's a sequel/prequel but Pixel did make a game before Cave Story that has one of the bosses from Cave Story in it. It's called Ikachan and is also freeware.

Yeah, you bought the remastered version.

The original game came out like 7-8 years ago and was a free download.

This is what I would've shared with you if it hadn't been shared. I probably ought to get to it.

Did you get the "true" ending? If not, then there's still some more replay value left in it for ya...

I still need to complete my Hell-run.

If you haven't gotten around to playing this game you really should. Despite some minor annoyances (finding the dogs in the sand level the first time kind of sucks), it's really awesome.

I just heard about this on another message board. So do I have to make all "bad" decision to get that ending?

I don't remember the specifics anymore off the top of my head (been a long time since I've done it), but there are guides out there that tell you exactly what to do. There are just specific (and sometimes obscure) things you need to do at certain points in the game. If you do everything correctly, at the "end" you will have an additional area to play through and a new final boss. But beware, it's not for the faint of heart... good luck!
