I had never bought anything from www.gog.com before, but I'd heard great things about it from my friends. I eventually caved in and popped over there and bought Outcast which is a 1999 action adventure game/third person shooter. Apparently it's brilliant and some people consider it one of the greatest games of all time. Now, the purchase went incredibly smoothly and sign up took me under a minute. The actual purchase took under 20 seconds and the site was easy to navigate and I find my download instantly.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the actual service. I had no idea that you got a bunch of bonus content for that small amount of money! I payed $5.99 for the game Outcast and got a load of concept art, the manual, the soundtrack, a making of video and an out takes video. Brilliant.  Check out some of this concept art though!

Considering that this art is from before 1999, pretty incredible ey?

Also, in case you didn't know from the title, this is a generic concept art thread for people to post and appreciate concept art.

A personal favourite. I was fascinated by Mantis when I played the game.

I love concept art. If I would be an artist, I would focus on concept. There's just something epic about them...

@Jasta: What game is that from? The character is very nice but I really don't like that rough art style.

It's annoying sometimes when some games don't look anything like the concept art.

Well, speaking of GOG, that's where I got Psychonauts. Here's some concept art from the game by Peter Chan:

I've always loved Uncharted's concept art. It really closely mirrors the final look of the game. These are from Uncharted 2:

They only game I've bought from GOG is Fallout, which unfortunately doesn't come with much art. Here's what's there:

It does come with 'the Fallout bible', though, which I guess is pretty cool.

@FireSketch: What's the Fallout bible? And the colouring on the second one looks a bit off but the rest of them are pretty bad ass.
@BeachThunder:
I bought Psychonauts on Steam for £2 when it was on sale. Fantastic buy but I had to reformat shortly after I downloaded it and never bothered playing it again. Is it worth downloading and playing even though it's a pretty big download? Also I kind of wish I payed the extra £1.50 and got it on GOG because of all the bonus material.

@Murdouken: Gah, that damn Psychonauts Steam sale, I bought it on GOG a couple of weeks beforehand ;_; And I'm not really convinced that the GOG extras were that great. It definitely is worth checking out, but there are some annoying issues; namely, the camera can sometimes be problematic and there are some frustrating platforming parts. Overall though, it's a good game, especially in terms of the wacky story and setting.

And now for some Mirror's Edge:

I remember Outcast having a really distinct art-style. They are remaking the game using CryEngine (not officially, it's a mod). Look it up on Moddb if you're interested.

I loved all of the concept art for fallout 3 that came with the collectors edition, it really sold me on the themes and tone of the game. Concept art in general is awesome.

Outcast, while a fun game with some great depth to the story and environment, is possibly one of them messiest games I've ever seen. It's not the world that's bad, it's great, it's just the Voxel Engine that they use that makes your eyes bleed. Great game with a great soundtrack though.

@BeachThunder: These are incredible. I've only seen concepts for characters and locations so far. Having concepts for moves and stuff seems like a pretty incredible idea. Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter could so amazing stuff with this style.
