Console shooters or PC shooters?
" @Diamond said:Probably because you didn't read properly, his first line : 'I'm not gonna lie, console shooters suck.' If you agree with that, you're a fanboy or idiot." Your opinion doesn't make it a fact. For me it's a major tossup. Still not sure what I'm buying MW2 for. "He never stated his opinion was fact, and I didn't even get that impression from him. Although, that might be because I agree with him. "
" Your opinion doesn't make it a fact. For me it's a major tossup. Still not sure what I'm buying MW2 for. "I'm pretty sure it is a fact that a keyboard and mouse provide better control for FPS'. Why do you think most consoles shooters have auto aim built in? Fact is the PC has different strengths than consoles. FPS' are one of them.
I used to a 100% keyboard and mouse guy myself but after playing a lot of 360 shooters, I've found that I often prefer using the 360 controller because it ends up being a more comfortable way to play games. Now obviously I would never play Counter-Strike with a gamepad but for most shooters out there today, a gamepad is sufficient. In fact I've found that I end up using my 360 controller as much as possible these days, even for PC games (well as long as the game has built in support for it)
If you want to play a "serious shooter", i dont know if there is really any alternative to the accuracy of a mouse/remote setup. Doesn't mean that you cant have fun with an analog stick, but its just not going to have the same level of skill. No skilled player playing on a controller will play as well as a skilled player using a mouse.
Mouse and Keyboard are far better for me, I dislike the camera movement you get from dual analogue, straight lines of movement etc. With a mouse you get a much freer movement which is more natural.
Anyone willing to say the 3shitty pad is better than KB+M needs to sign onto Steam and play CS 1.6 or CS:S with that stupid pad. Tell me if you get a single kill.
Isn't this why all the idiots quit playing Shadowrun? They couldn't frag the PC shooters. Hah.
KB+M all the way. It's perfect in everyway.
I don't some console guy telling me you don't aim with a mouse and you "point". Hell no, you aim with KB+M.
If your talking about controls, duh, PC wins.
" If your talking about controls, duh, PC wins. But if you're saying that PC shooter games are of better quality, I have to diagree. There hasn't been a worthy FPS for ages besides Crysis, and even that game is not sooo great. (Not counting ports, just exclusives.)We're in a time where PC's aren't dramatically better in the graphics department. They are better, but not by miles."
Oblivion would like a word with you
Anyway kb+m for most things, driving and flying (and sometimes third person) games I use xbox controller.
I really do appreciate console shooters, especially their balance, the way they make a shooter possible on a console, the pacing CoD 4, Killzone 2 and Halo 3 are all amazing examples of how to make a damn good game.
BUT
After many hours of playing these games (namely KZ2 and CoD4 in my case) the gameplay started to feel a little stagnant. Why?
Because the slow turning reticle and deliberate speeds at which everything fires, how fast people run, I get used to it. Yes, this is how fast I go, I can turn at this speed, I can fire this many rounds before reloading.
I brought the Unreal Deal over Steam a little while back when it was cheap, and finally decided to install UT, put it on moderate difficulty, and I remembered why I played so much of it back when it came out. You run FAST. REALLY FAST. You turn as fast as you can handle by turning the sensitivity up a bit. Nothing is methodical, it's hectic and highly unbalanced and once again FREAKING FAST. And at that speed, you don't get used to it.
The adrenaline simply of running fast and jumping high and never having to reload: This is why PC shooters are better. You don't feel safe.
The enemies are better than you are, they don't have the same restraints as you do, such as a maximum sensitivity you can play the game at before moving the mouse 1 inch sends you into an infinate spin. It's all twitch based. It doesn't necessarily matter who is the better player, but who is the fastest. and god damn is it exciting.
Re: the reason why modern shooters should not be developed for console first and PC second (Cough, UT3)
END RANTING!
Edit: After actually reading the post, I voted Keyboard and Mouse, just in case you thought I was playing UT with a controller and found it miraculously better than on console ;)
PC is way better for me. for some reason I just play better with wasd and the mouse then with the console controller, which is what I play with a lot omore
I haven't really played a console fps since Golden Eye, and that game's controls annoyed me so much I gave up on the entire idea of console shooters for twelve years. It's not the incredibly shitty aiming you get or the "snap-to-target" baby controls (we have that on PC shooters as well, it's called aimbot and will fucking get you banned) - it's the having to stand there like an asshole waiting for your guy to turn around when there's something behind you. The way I see it they'll never be able to get around that, unless they crank the sensitivity up like mad, which'll fuck up my already crippled aim, or using a quickturn button, which feels weird and unnatural.
I generally buy it on the PC if I have the option.
Only in rare occasions I'd buy a console FPS.
Well I only bought 1 for a console, Killzone 2
Every other FPS I own? On the PC.
M/KB is more precise, but feels significantly less awesome and immersive. I had come to prefer Analog controls, but now that I regularly play WaW on the Wii, it's hard to enjoy other controls. Once you get used to and are able to deal with turning-by-crosshair, Wii FPS controls are incredibly satisfying.
I haven't played many PC shooters, but the ones I have played seem more exciting than a console shooter. Battlefield 2 was a lot of fun, but the fact that nearly every game I got into contained aim bots and other hacks kinda ruined it for me.
