Dark themed games?

I've been playing Torchlight lately and it reminded me of how much I loved Diablo games. The thing I enjoyed the most was the atmosphere, it was pretty dark and gloomy. I wonder, what are the more recent games that feel similar? Don't have to be RPGs, just in general.

Batman: Arkham Asylum comes to mind, and Limbo of course.

 My first thought was Limbo .

I think Demon'ssss' Soulsss's is just what you're looking for.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

The difficulty of Demon's Souls is very discouraging. I mean yeah I'm up for a challenge but most of what I head about this game is stuff like "fuck this game". It drives people insane. 

Metro 2033 and the Stalker games I guess 

Pokemon Black and White.

From what I know (althouh I've never played it) Persona 3 is meant to be quite dark.

Limbo. Now that's some dark theme going on there.

Dead Space 1 and 2, Bioshock 1 and 2.

I would say  Demon's Souls and Dragon Age.

Alan Wake. Quite literally "dark themed".

Nier and Silent Hill 2 are the darkest, most depressing and dreary games I know of. And they're both awesome.

I thought the difficulty was discouraging at first, but that subsided after about an hour into the game.

 Alien Swarm is a nice little bit of dark top-down shooting fun if you haven't tried it already (it's free on Steam), and there are several other similar games like Shadowgrounds and Alien Breed.
 
Other games that spring to mind have already been mentioned.

I'm playing Sanitarium right now, and that's pretty dark and messed up.

the darkness and system shock 2

Silent Hill 2 will make you question the validity of optimism.

Max Payne & Deus Ex.

Dragon Age 2 based on the demo at least (MUCH darker then the first one ever was...well,if you didn't play as a human noble it is.)

Don't let the Giant Bomb men scare you away from Demon's Souls. Don't get me wrong, they are bros, but if there's two things they don't like it's japanese games and games that can't be played lying down with your mind turned off. The difficulty is managable as long as you don't treat it as your average action game.

Not recent but Condemned 1 and 2. In fact scratch 2 . Just play the first.

There is a game called, The Darkness. It's kinda dark.
 
Also there's a sweet band called The Darkness. They aren't dark at all.
