IN THIS BLOG:
- Deadly Premonition (doy!)
Pretty rad to see that someone at G4 enjoyed the game enough that they were more than willing to air a review that gave it 4 out of 5.
This makes me realize two things:
- I wish I could get even $20 at this point freed up to finally buy a fucking copy of the game
- The internet is fucking retarded sometimes.
Okay, maybe I've known the latter for some time, but it's always amazing to me how there will be one subject that comes along every so often that causes beet-red faces to stare at computer screens and nerd-rage. At the same time, there's also those people who like to poke and prod when they don't even need to do it. They just feel the need to be jerk-offs about something.
I know that feeling. I can be that jerk-off sometimes, as many of you know and realize. When I first came to these forums, I was called a "troll" many times. The mods got onto me plenty of times, but one of my own problems was that I didn't realize I was trolling or anything of the sort. I was relatively unfamiliar to forums, and so I figured I was just having some hearty debates. What little I knew... After over 11,000 posts (and that's not including when I was 0 glitched...which reportedly sets me over 14,000 according to Snail), I've found my way of handling situations as well as just generally being me on the internet without getting yelled at too often for it. I still jump into the occasional piss-storm of fuming anger and unnecessary bitching, but I've found a better way to construct what I say in order to fuel good and healthy debate, not simply say "fuck you and what you like".

Frankly, folks - both of those sides...are acting like fucking idiots. While this could go back to the tried-and-true ideal of "fanboy vs. troll", it's NOT. It's about people who love a game despite its flaws vs. people who don't love the game. So, I feel it's pertinent to the idea of healthy debate as well as general courtesy (something that the internet lacks, we know, but it's always worth some kind of proverbial "shot") that I point out very bluntly and obviously the issues here.
So...here ya go:
THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE DEFENDING DEADLY PREMONITION: You seriously need to sit back for a second and stop acting like complete idiots. Everyone knows that the gameplay mechanics, graphics, some of the tedious systems, the combat...there's a lot of poor design choices in this game. This is a game that folks LIKE and ENJOY. If any other game had the same kind of issues that this game has without an endearing story and crazy characters, etc etc...if it didn't have the charm it exhibits, then it would be getting low-end reviews and people would call it forgettable. Just look at Lost Planet 2 at the moment. Poor design is STILL poor design. With that said, I am thoroughly anticipating the day that I'll actually be able to buy a copy of this thing so I can get in on the madness and insanity of it, as well as enjoy myself a little. So, let the trolls be trolls, let them whine and bitch about how they don't agree with your opinion. You aren't going to convert them into agreeing with your opinion of the game...especially when they are completely unwilling to even plug the game in themselves and play it...yet still sit at a distance and talk shit about it because they watch the Endurance Run. = /
THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE BASHING DEADLY PREMONITION OR THOSE DEFENDING IT: Shut the fuck up! We get it - you don't think the game is good, and you want to hate on anyone that enjoys it. You've got the bigger dick, and you feel the need to wave it around in the mirror. Very few people will deny that the game features archaic design choices for controls, graphics, gameplay, etc. THAT IS NOT WHY THEY LIKE THE GAME! They like the story, the characters, the atmosphere, and the general weirdness of the game. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! Some of you will say "these idiots need to understand that they are calling it a good game, but it's a bad game because it's designed poorly". That's called subjective opinion. When a review is made about a game, it means that a critic is looking at the package AS A WHOLE and giving it a review and a grade. Apparently, MANY people have agreed that the relatively lacking design choices can easily be dealt with (meaning that the game is not unplayable by any means) and overlooked in some cases because, SURPRISE, there is something charming about everything in it. MOREOVER, you guys need to realize that THIS IS A BUDGET TITLE, PRICED AT $20. It means the company who developed it did not have a Gears of War-styled budget over $100 million dollars. The fact that a budget title has gotten this kind of exposure and general fanfare is surprising and amazing to see, and while I also haven't played the game myself, I'm not going to be so goddamn narrow-minded as to act like an asshole to everyone about it because I feel I have a bone to pick on a fucking internet forum.
IN THE END, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Those of you who enjoy the game, go forth and enjoy the game. When someone feels the need to troll about it, shut the fuck up and continue to discuss how much you enjoy the game. It's called "ignoring folks". Practice it once in a while, and shut the fuck up with all the goddamn bickering.

I know, I know. "Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Captain Obvious". I'm not looking to save the goddamn internet, but I am willing to point out when people are acting fucking stupid and tell them "HEY, PIPE IT THE FUCK DOWN UP THERE" while I beat on the ceiling with the handle of my broom.
That's all I can do. I'm not defending the game - the design choices do look incredibly flawed. However, I'm also not going to act like a dick to everyone enjoying the game. Instead, I'll try to put it to them as intelligently as possible and point out that while the game has its charms and this enjoyable air of weirdness to it, the game is flawed and is therefore not perfect.
Until next time...piece.
P.S. - I know that I've blogged about Deadly Premonition and the weird situation that surrounds it. This originally started as a reply to the thread about the XPlay review, but it eventually grew into more than just a comment. Funny how words take on a life of their own in the strangest of times...
P.S.S. - I will have a big revamping and updating to my blog format as of next week. Hope you guys are looking forward to it, as I know I am. I think people will enjoy the title of the blog. = D
