I'm pretty sure just about everyone knows Mark Hamill plays the Joker. It's nearly as iconic as Luke Skywalker at this point.

These options are not great.

Anyway yes, of course, it wasn't the reason I bought the game but I knew about it ahead of time.

Did you know Mark Hamill played The Joker in the 90's Batman animated series as well? And The Watcher in Darksiders?

I knew this when I played Asylum ages ago, that option isn't on the list.

I mean, I knew Mark Hamill played the Joker in that game, but I wouldn't say it was a driving force when buying it. Still, it was nice to see the 90's animated cast get together again.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make here. Hamill and Conroy reprising their roles from Batman The Animated Series was a huge win for Rockstedy and massively popular decision among fans of Batman.

Don't believe me fine, but even the GB quick look takes a moment to acknowledge it

When Rocksteady failed to include any mention of COVID-19 in their 2009 release of Arkham Asylum I fell off hard from that series. Also not enough dialog options; an infinite amount would have been better, just seems lazy to me.

A more interesting fact is Mark Hamil was the voice of Goro Majima long ago.

You knew it was him because Mark Hamil only has one voice.

Okay, this is all fine and dandy, but did you also know Mark Hamill is in the Star Wars movies? I wonder if J.J. Abrams is a fan of the Batman games and that's why he cast Hamill for a small part in The Force Awakens. He must have really impressed people because he got an even bigger role in The Last Jedi.

I can't think of another example of a voice actor parlaying a video game role into such a prominent role in a major live action franchise!

Ummm. Yes. He is easily the most famous Joker voice actor and it was a huge deal when it was announced that he would be voicing the Joker for Arkham Asylum, along with Kevin Conroy as Batman, as it lended the game some much needed legitimacy at a time when the idea of a good Batman game was somewhat laughable. It really had no effect on me buying the game though. That work was done almost entirely by the demo they released.

... Yes? I mean, when it comes to iconic VA roles, "Mark Hamill as Joker" is pretty high up there. Hell, to a lot of Batman fans, Mark Hamill's voice IS the Joker's voice, and it's what they hear in their heads when reading the comics. And if you followed news of Asylum's development at the time, they made it very much known that Conroy and Hamill were involved, since that was a huge get and set it apart from... well, most previous Batman games.

And then, of course, it was a talking point for every subsequent game. ("Hamill and Conroy return for Arkham City!", "Hamill and Conroy don't return for Arkham Origins!", "Arkham Knight: Hamill & Conroy, probably the last time ever!", etc.)

@jamesyfx: I'm with you. Voiceovers in games dont mean a thing to me. Now when it's full motion capture like the dude in Quantum Break or the guy in the new Far Cry 6 i'm alot more interested. Kevin Spacey in Advance Warfare was a draw. Just voiceovers.. Matt Damon.. and the actors guild. Who cares.

I honestly couldn't really care less about seeing Hollywood actors getting face scanned into video games. It's usually little more than a marketing tactic, and while they may be good live actors, most of the time they end up being pretty half-assed voice actors. (There are exceptions, but I feel like they're the minority.) Mark Hamill playing the Joker in the Arkham games wasn't great because he was Mark Hamill, it was great because he was already well known for voice acting as the Joker and he's become an established voice actor in his own right.

Even when it comes to voice actors that have no Hollywood background at all, I get far more excited hearing a voice I recognize from previous video games that I enjoyed than some random actor that has little to no voice acting experience. I want a good performance from video game voice actors, not Hollywood star power.

These options read as market research surveys.

A better question would be "Did you know Mark Hamil was in Regualur Show".

As others have noted: while not likely a driving force to a purchase, it was undoubtedly appreciated by many. Especially at the time of Arkham Asylum's release when Hamill and Conroy were even more in fans' minds as the voices of Batman and Joker thanks to Batman The Animated Series and Justice League. Still, you disagreed with those who suggested as much in your other thread, so up comes the deliberately crafted poll with only one option that cannot be spun in such a way that it would be in favor of your opinion (that his presence had a bearing on the attraction to the series); and that option being so extreme that few would choose it.

I'm not going to say that you need to agree with what others have said. What I AM saying is that this reaction is silly.

I suspect most people voting for the first option (myself included) would actually not say it was a driving force but you're missing an obvious option in this poll.

EDIT: also you do mean the series that started with Arkham Asylum, right? I'd venture that's the game that most would label the series with (if not just "Arkham" series)...Arkham Knight was generally disappointing for most I think.

Starting a poll thread to try to prove a point you were getting dunked on for making in another thread is next level petty.

It's especially interesting that instead of taking this newly gathered information and figuring out that perhaps it does make sense why all these big studio's pay the big bucks to known actors & voice actors, OP assumes that the actual answer is that no one cares about performances except for the 5% of nerds that visit a videogame site.

Like i'll be honest, it's not that the lack of Mark Hamill would drive me away from a game if the replacement guy was still doing a good job. But at the same time, i know what Joker should sound like and i know that Mark Hamill is good at doing that performance. So when a studio opens the wallet to nail that aspect of the presentation, it's a good sign that they make something worth caring about. And it's integral to the story the game is based around. If you want to make the players care about this story, you better make that aspect as good as possible, including voice work.

Why is there not just a "yes" option? The only choices for saying yes are "it made me want to buy the game" or "I found out later".

Everyone who ever played Arkham series know that Mark Hamil voiced Joker and Joker being in Arham Knight seems like easy thing to figurte out.

But did you know Troy Barker voiced Joker in Arkham Origins?

This poll is bad, like most everyone I knew he was Joker but it wasn't why I bought the game.

Also this doesn't matter but it was nice to see Kevin Conroy get to play live-action Batman once. (Well, Bruce Wayne at least.)
