I love the 'stupid Star Wars, they're all for kids now!'

They always were. And want to know why selling things to kids is so profitable? There is ALWAYS NEW KIDS. Unless we wind up in a Children of Men situation, there will always be a new audience replacing the previous one.

Well for me this is even more of a death of Lucasarts to me (at least in me being interested in what's made), guessing it's going to be more kid friendly than ever before with more wookie holiday programs & jar jar.

When has Disney done that to anything they've bought? And what could they possibly do to make Star Wars worse or more kid friendly than it already is?

All this means is that George Lucas no longer has control of the franchise and new talent is being brought in to make a new movie. Maybe it won't end up being any good, but the change is certainly a step forward. Disney at least has respect for the classics, it's only a matter of time before we see them restore the original versions of the films. Hopefully they get some of the old LucasArts classics out too, I've been waiting for Grim Fandango and Monkey Island 3 to be released digitally for years.

@Brodehouse the originals were kid friendly but they weren't aimed at kids. That's an important difference.

Any Star Wars fans who are upset about this need to think about it a little harder. This is nothing but good news purely based on the fact that fresh blood will get a crack at the series. A new director means a chance at a great movie. Not guaranteed but a chance is better then none with Lucas at the helm.
And whining about Disney messing it up? Really? Did we not go through this when they bought Marvel? Last time I checked that Avengers movie was pretty rad.

I'm guessing Jesse Eisenberg will be the protagonist in Episode 7 because whatever. Also I think Bryan Cranston would make a great old ass Jedi. Only he's more accustomed to the streets and has taken to being a hired gun over the years. And he kills people. Maybe he's like a Jedi Rogue? Like the Han Solo role and the Jedi role combined? Maybe that'd be neat. I doubt they'd do that though, they'd probably want to keep the archetypes as by the book as possible.

Well… wasn't expecting that… I suppose fresh blood might, just might, revitalise the franchise. It's been left on a bit of a cynical note with fans on how Lucas has been running things and I know Disney is capable of finding the right talent. Then again, it could just run the whole thing further into the ground. Let's not kid ourselves, we'll all be queuing up to watch it.

I don't want to sound like an internet fanboy, but I think the prequels just weren't that great. I mean, I don't get all butt hurt about them or anything, but they just aren't for me. I can find parts to like about them, like the fight with Darth Maul at the end of ep1. The Obi-Wan part of ep2 was also enjoyable, and ep3 wasn't all bad, but they felt like kids movies to me. So did RotJ in parts, and I didn't enjoy that as much either.

I'm not going to write off these new Disney movies, but I'm not pumped to see them either. I don't think Disney is going to bring us the Star Wars we all want. Disney made a statement about "pent up demand" which shows they are going after profit. They know they can make anything and it will do ok, so be prepared for some second rate Jar-Jar thing designed to not alienate children so they can sell toys.

I think I was one of the few that actually enjoyed John Carter... It was serious enough that I could take it seriously without feeling like I was watching a kid's movie and the action scenes seemed well done. If anything though, I'm really glad that George Lucas is throwing the towel with star wars... The closest form of a movie that we got were video games and if Bioware could make a better story than Lucas, then at this point I'm excited to see someone else make a movie, even if it is bought out by Disney.

I don't think 2 was that bad, but 3's plot was a mess. I spent most of it figuring out who was backstabbing who and then that ugly woman was suddenly turning into a huge giant thingy and there was a whirlpool and then credits. I haven't seen all of 4, but it can't make much less sense than that... can it?

Anyway, I still hold to the first movie being pretty good.

Also, I'm surprised but I'm not certain what emotion I'm feeling. Elation? Excitement? Distaste? Hate? Annoyance? I think, overall, I'm just plain curious. The Star Wars universe has proven itself to be massive, I'm certain that, with top men on the project, something good could be gotten out of this as long as it doesn't try to be the past six movies.

So many people have said it can't get any worse. You just wait. Darth Binks will haunt your nightmares.

I have zero expectations for these new movies. I will see them, though. I'm curious about plans for more Indiana Jones. Whatever happens, I hope that Shia Lebouf isn't involved. I dislike him so much, I won't even bother googling his name to check for spelling. Now that's disrespect.

Given some of the unevenness of the EU (especially the pissing contest of ever bigger doomsday weaponry) I don't see that as particularly a bad thing. Take what works, drop what doesn't, explicitly contradict what was actually terrible to not leave in doubt how terrible it was.
