Don't Call Norm

Someone in the Spring Semester 2018 chat suggested a Don't Call Norm logo in the style of Better Call Saul. So, I did the thing:

Seriously though, don't call Norm.

What was the context of this?

How many people are going to see this and go "who the hell is Norm?"

I can't find the archive of this stream anywhere, was it taken down because of the phone number part?

An old piece of software had a help line attached to it that was still an active number used by a retired former software programmer named Norm. I watched this live but now it seems scrubbed from all their feeds, YouTube, Twitch, and the site itself all have this Spring Semester 2018 stream wiped away :-(

@doncabesa: I just think it hasn't been posted yet? Can sometimes take a bit especially for these later in the day streams

I immediately assumed that this had something to do with Dan obtaining the phone number of, and subsequently calling, Norm Macdonald for some reason. It seemed like the most likely explanation.

I was just assuming they'd blur out that part or something.

Let Norm enjoy his retirement in peace.

@uhtaree: On the live stream of edutainment games last night they found one of those old numbers you could call for support that developers/publishers used to put in games. Nearly all of them now dial out or have been redirected for a new company etc. This one happened to still be in service to a guy called Norm who worked on the game but has since retired.

They're asking people not to be dicks and call this prank call this guy because they saw his number on a video game stream and let him enjoy his retirement.

You can always call the number they dialed on the GBE Star Trek playdate with Rich Gallup. I'm sure they want your business.

I hope they edit out the number, i love that he only just shut down shop last year and is STILL doing customer service from home. Norm seems like a cool guy.

I hope they will put the video up with number edited out or something at least. I had to go to sleep after just like half an hour and wish I could see the rest.

@flstyle: Agreed, I came in expecting Norm Chan and am now leaving monstrously disappointed.

According to Rorie, it is going to be edited out before the stream archive is posted.

I imagine it's like a reboot of the Call For Help TV show but starring Norm Chan. Except no one ever calls, nor should they.

Was "Don't Call Norm" said in the style of "Vinny, don't buy a racing wheel"? That's how it sounds in my head.

@uhtaree: I hope not, because didn't Vinny then end up still buying a racing wheel (and a flight stick, and a goofy hat -- actually, nevermind, maybe that was a great idea).

I was actually disappointed Jeff didn't put in his E3/GDC interview hat cause im sure Norm has good stories.

Also, "Don't Call Dave Lang", but we all know how that one went.

Very much so. Rorie was apologizing a lot, and everyone wished him a happy retirement.

It's up now, the wholesome call is still in but number has been taken out. Win-win.

It would be even better if they edited in a new number to call an automated line for something else completely stupid, and doesn't annoy a random person.

Please, don't call Norm. He seems genuinely nice and he deserves to retire in peace.

That's pretty crazy. I always wondered if things like that still worked, like the old tip hotlines for Nintendo and Sega.

Some of those hotlines have changed into different kinds of hotlines
