Poll Dr MoonWizard: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love the Moon Wizard (58 votes)

WIzards rule, Moons rule, why not a fucking Moon Wizard?! 59%
I hate Moon Wizards! 3%
I'm okay with wizards and moons, but I don't want them in my games 2%
I am the Moon Wizard! 36%

People are losing their shit over Dinklage saying some Wizard came from the moon. What the fuck? Whats wrong with Moon Wizards? How is this any goofier than anything else in 99% of games?

Let me be the first to say that we don't have wizards up here.

I am fully in favour of Moon Wizards.

The unintentionally deadpan delivery of the line is also great.

''people losing their shit''...? All I've ever seen is people saying that Dinklage's VO is poor, to which it is. The ''Oh no, it's the Hive'' delivery in particular is really bad. It doesn't elicit enough believable emotion of fear or surprise, nor is it matter-of-factly enough to have it sound akin to what is supposed to be a robot/android type character, like Data from Star Trek for example.

Also, this should be posted in the Destiny or at least Peter Dinklage boards...

I'm just sick of seeing yet another Moon Wizard in video games. There are wizards from all walks of life and celestial bodies/dimensions that are never represented in video games. I don't think our art medium will ever blossom if we don't have more diverse wizards in the industry.

I think it was a great line. Sean Murray from No Man's Sky likes to talk about his influences coming from old-school science fiction, and when I look at Destiny I think of old-school science fantasy. That line epitomizes that feeling.

@yummylee: Yeah, losing their shit. Its one line taken out of context in what is a fucking huge game from people who created one of the most influential games of the previous generation (you can dislike Halo, but its definitely super important) and all I hear about it is this one line. Look at this bologna! MOON WIZARDS 2014!

It was never really about one line. It was just a particularly egregious example. Bungie did the right thing and I'm totally down to embrace it anyway. Doesn't change the fact that the performance in the alpha lacks consistency, which was always the main gripe. Not that he sounded like an emotionless bot.

@dkraytsberg: Polygon & Kotaku making a deal out of nothing you say? Well colour me surprised!.. :o And that Gamespot article was simply noting Bungie's own acknowledgement of the line and how they've actually managed to profit from it by turning the line into a meme of sorts, so I don't think it's fair to compile them alongside the rest.

Moon Wizards are the epitome of cheesy sci fi and I love it.

Ghost is a robot, his lines should be flat and emotionless, that's how robots sound.

Modulate Dink's voice and all will be well. He sounded fine in the trailer..it's just he has that cultured tone that sounds weird coming out of an AI. But hey Bungie's cashing in with Moon Wizard t-shirts so what the hell.

What are you talking about, taken out of context? He says it as the mission is ending and the rest of the context is about how you need to shoot things that fly or oh no, the hive-shit. It's all horribly written and performed. The line just became the most easily recognizable, and by this point profitable (good on Bungie to cash in on it), out of them all.

I don't care if Bungie is influential, the alpha had some awkward and shitty VO and they deserve to be called out on it. Or, in nicer terms, "be given feedback".

That being said, I am totally pro the concept of a Moon Wizard.

Yeah, I think it was taken out of context. There are Wizards in this universe, they are those monster things or whatever. And perhaps they came from the moon, which could have something to do with whats going on on the moon or what went on there before or *something*. They have lore, and its seemingly cheesy, kinda like most modern science fiction games being made today. At least in their world saying "That Wizard came from the Moon" isn't as ridiculous as it is here in reality, where saying Moon Wizard conjures up (puns! :D) images of pointy hat-wearing celestial magicians. So yes, it is out of context, but forgetting that, I have a more serious question: Do Moon Wizards ride Space Giraffes? Is J Allard the original Moon Wizard?

I would be so bold as to claim that habitable moons are more compelling setting-wise than habitable planets. I'm not sure if I feel that our own moon is very compelling, on the other hand.
