It's been joked about for years, decades even, but Duke Nukem Forever is finally being released. Now, I only played Duke a few times back in high school and I wasn't really into the game that much back then and even less now. So my own personal hype for the new game is currently ranked at "indifferent". I'm interested to see how the game will be after all this time, but I have no desire (right now) to buy or even play it.
I assume the common perception is that after all this time, no game can live up to the hype of being in development for decades. But has it been too long? What are people really expecting out of this game? Is there any hype at all? I have a feeling that the game has been in development for so long that all of the "real" excitement for the game has died out and all that's left now is marketing.
Duke Nukem hype?
My hype has cooled the closer the game has gotten to release. Saints Row has pretty much taken over the role of immature and dumb action for me.
I'm a huge fan of Duke Nukem 3D, and from what I've seen of Forever, it looks have pretty much unchanged gameplay with up-to-date visuals. Sure, it's probably going to be no better than average; I'm not expecting anything mind blowing and I don't think anybody else is.
But I am so freakin' psyched, I can't begin to explain it.
I still have an old PCG UK cover disc with an E3 trailer for the Quake 2 version of the game around here somewhere. Stuff like that makes me feel old.
I've never played a Duke Nukem game but I really want to play Forever. I guess I'm just curious how good a game can be in 12+ years of development.
I want to play the game but more in the "sweet I wonder when it'll be $20" way than in the day one purchase way
