I'm surprised Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin had so few votes - feels like that's been an indie darling I've heard a lot about of late, but maybe the peak of interest in it has only been in recent weeks. I'm guessing not many people aside me put Unto The End on their lists - tbh I only squeezed it on at 10 because I like what it's going for, even if I don't think it fully succeeds. Worth checking out if you have Gamepass, though.
Seems the lists are mixed up. The second one is clearly the weighted list.
I'm pretty sure it's right. If I'm remembering correctly, the weighted scores are lower than the total number of votes because they use fractions for the scoring (not "10 points for first" but rather "1 point for first" or something to that effect). That's why a game like 13 Sentinels ends up much lower on total votes than it does on weighted (because people who liked it tended to really like it and place it highly on their list), whereas the likes of THPS and AC: Valhalla drop down on the weighted because lots of people liked them but scored them lower down.
@rorie: Both lists have “There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension” and “There Is No Game.” I assume some users kinda fumbled the game’s name, so its votes are split up when I’m pretty sure those votes are primarily meant for the 2020 game with “Wrong Dimension” in the title. Hard to know without asking them, I guess.
Not that I'm super invested this year, but I'm a little confused about this list, because my number 7 pick is on the list with a single vote (presumably mine), but my higher ranked picks aren't.
As you can see below, my vote for Fantasy General II seems to have been counted, but not for Black Dawn Rebirth, Stirring Abyss or Dread Nautical, which I ranked higher?
1. Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection 2. Death Stranding 3. Star Wars: Squadrons 4. Black Dawn Rebirth 5. Stirring Abyss 6. Dread Nautical 7. Fantasy General II - Invasion 8. Crystal Caves HD 9. Trackmania 10. Rogue@bisonhero:Yeah, there'll always be some weird outlier things like that. The data gets a little weird when you go down the list a bit.
Pretty cool. Now I just wish the gang would look at and talk about the list(s) for awhile. Talk about differences that surprise or don't surprise them, games they haven't heard of, see any patterns, where and why they think opinions align or misaligned with their community etc etc.
@fisk0: I have some assumptions, based on what @y2ken and others have said:
Fantasy General II has "1" vote on the "top 500 weighted votes" list. With your rank of 7th place, that earns it only 0.4 weighted votes. For the sake of simplicity, let's say one other user played it and ranked it their 1st place game, taking your 0.4 up to 1.4. Rorie's spreadsheet would visually round it off to 1 vote, but it would rank highly among all the "1" vote games.
I'd guess that perhaps you were the only site user to play Black Dawn Rebirth, Stirring Abyss or Dread Nautical. Even Black Dawn Rebirth's fourth place from you (earning 0.7 weighted votes) wasn't enough for it to make the cut on the top 500, though Rorie's spreadsheet probably visually rounds 0.7 up to a 1.
Fantasy General II, Black Dawn Rebirth, Stirring Abyss or Dread Nautical don't appear on the "top 500 votes" list because once you get down to 500, it's all the games that only 2 users on the site voted for. I imagine a lot of games only had 2 users backing them, but only 39 of them made it onto the bottom of the top 500. Not sure how it was determined which 2-user games to include since all the votes are equal on this list.
@bisonhero: Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Thanks!
