Favorite third-person melee combat system ?

Arkham Asylum easily.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. The amount of control you have over your swings is simply amazing.

I also liked coolness of the combat in the Batman games, but that's an entirely different thing.

Sleeping Dogs for me. As others have said, it takes the Arkham Asylum formula, but improves on it. And the sheer violence of the environmental attacks is great.

Batman Arkham Asylum/City then God of War.

DMC has enemies that swim underground, transform, fuse, teleport, eat ya up, explode, fly around, and some of them double as weapons you can grab.

I've played like a hundred hours dodging these bizarre monsters. When you play on harder difficulties, they learn new tricks.

Batman gets my vote

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, no contest

Mount & Blade: Warband, Dark Souls and I rather felt the close combat in Space Marine was very satisfying. Also, Sleeping Dogs had some good combat. And God of War deserves a mention as well.

I tried Arkham Asylum, but I just didn't like that game.

Ninja Gaiden without a doubt. The way you can rip groups of dudes apart if you know what you're doing is pretty incredible. If you don't know what you're doing you're getting ripped apart though and that's another reason why it's so good.

The Arkham games do a good job too but they lack the complexity and depth of NG.

Yeah I'm gonna get ripped apart for this one but the warriors games dynasty warriors has always held this odd depth most people just ignore followed by assassin creed.

And REALLY? Dark souls? I can -kind of- understand liking the game, but saying that is your favorite third person combat system, are you fucking high? That is the absolute worst part about the game.
