Bulbasaur all the way for me. Not only is it my favorite of the three main starters, it is also effective against most of the gym leaders, especially the earlier ones. Charmander and Squirtle are only good against a few each.
Darn, I put an extra question mark at the end of the question. This'll keep me up all night.
For those of us who played either the original Pokemon games (Blue, Red, Yellow, or Green versions) or the remakes (Fire Red and Leaf Green), which Pokemon did you choose to take from Professor Oak??
For Pokemon Red, Blue, LeafGreen, and FireRed, I picked Squirtle.
For Pokemon Yellow, Pikachu is the only choice xD
Charmander, since he turns into a goddamn dragon. Granted, you have to go through the phase where you resist making "Charma-charma-charma-charma-charma-charmeleon" jokes before you get to the dragon, but damn it, Chraizard is badass. Not as badass as Typhlosion, but still fairly badass.
" Bulbasaur is the only correct answer to this question. "While the quoted statement is probably inaccurate, it does hold true for me.
"...Chraizard is badass. Not as badass as Typhlosion, but still fairly badass. "This is true, I always too cyndaquil for Silver Version.
I played through red and blue so many damn times, there really wasn't a favorite starter, but I did like Charmander more because he was supposedly the harder one to go with.
Most of my friends picked Charmander because he's fire and fire is hot. lols. But me, I picked Bulbasuar due to seeing the most evolved form looked the coolest to me.

Wait a second, dragons are still the coolest thing I can think of.
Holy topic title Batman! Anyway, i think I always picked charizard. i always picked the fire pokemon for my first palythrough of a Pokemon game.
First time ever playing Pokemon (Pokemon Red) I chose charmander, and he was my first lvl 100 pokemon. I think I chose squirtle in Pokemon silver, and now I prefer plant types.
No fire type could ever live up to my charmander, which 10(ish?) year old me named Lloyd. Sadly, though my original copy of Red still works, I had transferred him to my Silver cartridge, and that became corrupted at some point so he is gone forever :( RIP Lloyd.
Damn, Squirtle is seriously the least picked among the first three? I figured it was Bulbasaur for sure.
It may not have been the smartest choice, but I loved my Squirtle. Sigh. This thread reminds me of the good old days, when I was min/maxing Pokémon (and still getting it wrong because I was a kid, and you know what? eff "perfection," Squirtle was awesome.)
I had Blue, I voted Bulbasaur because, in Leaf Green I chose him and I mostly pick the grass type because my other friends went for the others and i had to be different (plus grass beats the first Pokemon gym leader easily, then you just grind the levels from there). But, I did chose Charmander in Blue when i first got it, got it to lvl 100 and was pissed because it couldn't use fly :(
I've always been a bulbasaur fan myself.... He was and still is my favorite starter with cyndaquil in close second. Damn I wish I could find my old copy of red version.

Pikachu... because Yellow. I have fond memories of a Charizard though, and I don't think I got it through a trade. Man, trading brings back memories. Did anyone else find it damn near impossible to trade without a wire using the little sensors things on the top of your Gameboy Colors?
