Future of South Park games?

Just been playing through South Park The Fractured But Whole, which im enjoying quite a lot even though I was turned off by the Coon episodes in the show. I read an interview with Trey Parker and Matt Stone where they said video games could be the future of south park media. What could the third rpg one about? or what would a VR game be about?

I seriously doubt games could be the future of the property as the outreach just isn't as large as shows, movies, or webisodes.

I platted FBW last week, enjoyed the hell out of it, but I honestly don't know how they could pull off a third entry anytime soon as it feels like they've tapped into everything they could reference-wise with these last two.

Thats what my brain said too, but my heart is itching to find a reason to hope...

The first was you being a total nobody, the second was you being a super hero and the third is potentially you teaming up with butters to be the villain I think. It was hinted at that at least.

I stopped playing TFBW sort of forgot about it. I got to be honest, I didn't really enjoy it as much as Stick of Truth. I kinda hope the next game won't be another RPG. Maybe something more along the lines of Castle Crashers would be neat. I still would like it to be 2D of course. All the 3D South Park games were horrible.

I liked both games but a big part of it was seeing how they used self-reference to their own material. They've sort of burned through all of that now, including the stuff I'm not as keen on. I'm not saying it'd be impossible for them to make another game but they'd have to put a lot more effort into the story of it.

I think they can pull it off if they tap into things such as Imaginationland and a new version of Canada that’s different from the one in Stick of Truth and even maybe a whole other huge area to explore with locations like Cartmanland, Super Fun Time, the water park, etc. or they could just put these locations in/near the town

From a license standpoint there's no way they could do Imaginationland.

The cost for the rights to the Imaginationland song alone makes me shudder to consider.

@shiftygism: Regardless, the other locations could still be plausible, also they could include ‘Tegridy Farms

Also, I’m pretty sure they could work with the stuff from the episode when they kick all the adults out of town claiming they were molested and turn South Park into ‘Smiley Town’ (Season 4 Episode 16), that could be maybe a part of the game, a DLC, or even the main basis of the game from it’s interesting new look on the town and everything. They could base it off Superhero’s or Medevil (I guess) again. I could even imagine a game all about a adventure in Canada because maybe there could be some issue there in the game. Or just remake the “Best” South Park 1998 game.

The logical next step would be to base it off the anime ninja episode. Good Times with Weapons from season 8.
