While I wouldn't go as far as to say "This thread is terrible," but there are a lot of people who just "don't get it," as @Sbaitso has pointed out.

If you wrote down a sports game, do you really not get why people like them? Because if you mean that honestly, I feel like you're being willfully ignorant. I know why I don't like sports games, but to say I don't understand why other people might like them is crazy. Saying "rpgs" or "final fantasy" is similarly ridiculous. Do you really not see why people like those games, or do you just not like those games and think other people should think like you? Maybe this topic should have been, "Name things you think people should agree with you about" or "Name things that you don't like that many other people do" and leave it at that. If you stop for a second, I'm sure you'll find the answers to your own responses.

Also, what the hell is all this "Pokemon is for hipsters," nonsense? You're making this all up right? Where exactly do you live that this is the case? I'd say it was just some person being stupid, but too many people latched onto it for that. Well, then again, it might just be a bunch of people being stupid.

I really want to like those games because Disney and Final Fantasy, natch, but I tried both main games and gave up after a few hours each. This guy knows what I'm talking about.

Maybe I should have clarified better, because I did not intend for this thread to be "Name popular things you hate". I wanted shock at a franchise being succesful, because to me Assassin's Creeds story is so weird it surprises me so many people love it. Seemed outside the mainstream to me when the original AC debuted and yet it's blossomed into this yearly franchise.

Metal Gear Solid. It just seems like an incomprehensible mess.

But we both share exactly the same experience with God of War. I didn't find it boring, per se, I just don't like that kind of 3rd person melee beat 'em up, I really like Greek mythology though, so I wish I did like it more.

edit: also I'm really sad this thread didn't devolve into a bunch of people posting youtube clips of people saying fuck you. It seemed to be heading that way for a moment there.

Personally, I don't get all the love for the Suda 51 games. I know that they aren't part of the same series, but as a whole they have a weird following that is kind of unwarranted.

final fantasy games. i don't like the game to much. i don't get the game either.

i also don't get RTS games. i tried playing civilization but i found the game to be boring. my friend told me to play the game we tried playing it, but found it boring.

I like all these games.

Diablo and other lootfest games. I don't really see why clicking so much is so fun. I've never played one so I might actually like them, but judging by my opinion on Borderlands, I probably wouldn't adore them.

I did, by the way, have some fun with Borderlands. It was a pretty good break from all of the samey looking shooters I'd been playing, and it did some cool things. It's just that I finished it and every time I've tried to play it since then I've been bored to sleep by it.

But I didn't spend much on it and got 30 hours out of it.

It is but the gameplay is pretty good.

I just cannot, for the life of me, understand why Half-Life 2 is rated as it is. Even at the time of its release, there were so many games with better gunplay, and better level design.

The half life games. I don't get what the big deal with those are.

Assassins Creed (I just hate annualized franchises). All Blizzard games (but omg each one takes like 12 years to come out so they MUST be the best EVERRR). Guitar Hero and Rock Band (oh cool, let's all gather round and press the colored buttons to shitty rock songs). Gears of War (couldn't be less interested). Uncharted (such a fucking Indiana Jones rip off that it's appalling). Let me end my comments with a big no offense to the people who like these franchises.

I can see how kids can fin the small cute little creatures appealing, but one would think that an adult would prefer gameplay with more depth. I mean, you can basically complete Pokemon Red by just spamming the A button in combat.

I can't get into [insert highly regarded gaming franchise here] it is so mediocre/unappealing to me. I just can't understand why anyone would like that horse crap!

I thought about whether I should type all of this in or not.

Portal: The story is barely there if at all, only one interesting character (to be fair, she is the only character) and (albeit this one has more to do with my personality) once I figure out the answer to their puzzles I just want to move on. I almost forgot no replay value at all.

Resident Evil: This had less to do with the game itself and more to do with an annoying memory. My cousin let me play his copy of RE2 only one problem, he wouldn't let me see or even tell me the controls. I died in the very beginning area of the game, having never once figured out how to fire the dammed gun. Of course, now days I could play them if I wanted to but, everything from the controls (now that I actually know them) to the story (from what I've heard from friends who are/were fans) just sounds terrible to me.

Call of Duty: I loved the first one on PC. However, I can't stand playing the current Call of Duty games. Their just to easy for me, they just feel so slow to me, the perks and killstreaks can and do help people but, they just make the game even easier to me. Also you die so fast, it basically becomes a game of hide and go seek because no one wants to run out. Oh, and lets not forget all the bugs and glitches that the game has.

OK despite what I said earlier in this thread I do have a hard time comprehending why some people could possibly like Saints Row 2 more than Saints Row the Third. That's one I just can't empathize with.

Persona series, and sports games.

Most Shigeru Miyamoto games allude me in the charm department. I don't like his sense of whimsy.

Minecraft/ Terraria.

It's not really a franchise per se, but that theme of digging and constant resource management I don't get at all.

And those Dynasty Warriors Games....It's the same exact thing over and over.

Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid.     MGS is okay, but I don't know why it is held in such high regard.    Final Fantasy, on the other hand, is a series I don't understand at all.  I can't stand the characters, stories and the art styles of these games.   Just to clarify, I'm talking about the 3D FF games, I don't know much about the older ones.

@OtakuGamer: Bullshit, I mean ok maybe so people do that. But most adults who play pokemon played it as kids and still enjoy it now. I mean if you look at the core gameplay it is still a very enjoyable RPG with some pretty addictive mechanics.

I mean it hasn't changed enough over to years to keep me hooked but I still enjoy the old games on occasion.

I hate Hipster as much as the next guy but sometimes people just do things because they enjoy them.

Came in here expecting less big franchises, this is pointless. It's not hard to see how most of the mentioned franchises caught on through marketing, innovation or just good timing.

Gears of War is so fucking dull.

Zelda games. By today's standards the stories are too simplistic, and the game mechanics too restrictive. There's no room for experimentation in Zelda, no physics puzzles, just the unintuitive kind you end up googling in frustration.

Any crap console noob fisr person shooter that is trying to be a real PC game a failing at it hard.

AKA every fucking single crap first person shooter on fucking consoles since ther dawn of time.

Assassin's Creed. I see why it's considered *good*, I just don't see how it's considered *fun*. I find it tedious for the most parts, and not in the least rewarding. And for my taste, the world simulation is way too transparent - never felt immersed in any of its cities, like I am with the GTA games for example.

Oh well, I like it well enough to slog through all three AC2 games. That's something I guess...
