Call of Duty and Final Fantasy.
I felt the same way about Metal Gear Solid before actually giving it a chance...and came away a convert. MGS is on a whole other level, honestly.
I always 'get' why people like a series.
I don't really like Halo, but I see why people would like it. Its combat has a very unique pace to it, and is entirely skill based, frantic shooting won't bring you victory.
Assassin's Creed- yeah, I don't like it, but it's an interesting open world game with many hooks and a cool story.
Pokemon- for me it's not diverse enough, but I think the presentation and the world are really neat.
Zelda- I find it boring, confusing and shallow, but it has a a fairy-tale feeling to it, and the story/world feel really epic, and often enough it's fun to play.
I don't think there's a franchise I don't "get." Some appeal to my tastes, some do not.

While I might not agree with some of the examples, the general idea sums up my feelings rather well.
Skyrim, I thought it was inferior to oblivion, boring quests, horrific loot, the only thing it had going for it was a sense of place.
I suppose this is "Unpoular Opinions Thread II."
OK, I'll bite. In what will likely be the least controversial series to bring up, I'd have to bring up the Tales series. I can't honestly say that it has contributed anything to JRPGs.

Fans don't take kindly to people changing anything about JRPGs, that's why they're simmering down into obscurity and infamy.
Also I don't get JRPGs, they're the horseshoe crab of gaming, but only because they both stopped evolving 450 million years ago. At least horseshoe crabs continues to be relevant, unlike...
