GAME start there Firesale!

In an attempt to make some last money, GAME and Gamestation are selling a whole load of there products at dirt cheap prices, for instance the first Resistance was 98p and Brink and Bulletstorm was £2.98.

So was this whole GAME downward spiral saga as short as it seems to me, or was it only just in the news for a short period of time before things started getting *real* bad? Because it seems like just the other day I kept hearing how they were the biggest game retailer in the UK.

Well if you consider "real bad" confirmation that GAME won't be stocking ANY new releases for the next 2-3 weeks then yeah I'd say its pretty bad.

It was definitely talked about late - it has sort of been in public knowledge for around a year now that they were losing money, and for much longer that Developers/Publishers didn't like them.

And I saw this earlier but saw loads of games ont he pre-owned section with none in stock (I had for instance to go through 4 pages before an instock PSP title appeared) - does anyone know if these are going to be in stores at a huge price drop too?

Tobias Funke will have shot his wad for sure, but I'm waiting for the non-used games to go on sale. Then I'll have something of a mess on my hands.

Everybody abandon ship! Figured this was coming when I tried to pre-order Street Fighter X Tekken and couldn't, EA games is one thing but all new games..

Brink is like 3 pounds more expensive than it should.

Cashed in £27 worth of ancient reward points plus £5 for the cancellation of my Mass Effect 3 preorder to get SSX for £8. Worth using up any reward points asap.

I lost interest the second I realised it was preowned games only. I gave up on that years ago after several bad experiences, however if they drop the prices of new games/not used games I'll be interested.

What the hell is wrong with used games? I've bought them all my gaming life and I've never had a single problem. Just return it.

I've never bought one that hasn't been scratched to fuck and come with a manual that stinks to hell of cigarettes. It's absolutely disgusting and not worth the tiny saving Game offer.

The other problem, and my main one, is that the nearest Game isn't in my town. I got sick of having to travel back and forth returning games that didn't work. The travel time and cost sometimes exceeded the saving I made buying games used.

Is it really though? From the sounds of it the stores were not pleasant shopping experiences. Now that it's going out of business it'll create the opportunity for new and better independent stores to open up. Hopefully enough new stores open that there will be competition on pricing allowing consumers to save. Sure lots of people will lose their jobs at GAME soon but the market for games still exists so those jobs will still exist, just at different companies. Of course the reason GAME is going under is because their costs (largely payroll and land I'd imagine) outweigh their revenues so there will likely be some reduction in the total number of jobs in games retail but that reduction is just the industry getting more efficient meaning investors will lose less money/ have less risk.

From my own experiences they had the nicest shopping experience out of any video game retailer. Their business practices seem really shady, but I always enjoyed going there.

From my own experiences they had the nicest shopping experience out of any video game retailer. Their business practices seem really shady, but I always enjoyed going there.

I always hated going in GAME because I knew as soon as I walked in the door even if I had headphones in and did my best to look uninterested I would get harassed about some stupid offer they had on. Add into that the fact that most of the staff didn't know what they were talking about and that they were almost always the most expensive games retailer around and you have a pretty shoddy operation.

Get on over before its GAMEover.

I remember the local Blockbuster closing down and trying to hawk used versions of games for 24 bucks each - they barely sold any until the last few days when they cut them down to...19.99. Most of the games were available for new cheaper on Amazon.

Nothing amazing on that list yet, but many in a few days who knows!

I'm going down to GAME and GameStation in a few hours and see what I can get, one of my friends said they were able to get Uncharted 3 for like £10 and Skyrim for £15, which is kinda crazy.

What about GAME Australia

GAME's retail experience depends solely on the staff in the store. I used to work for them in Leeds, UK and to be fair, our store was pretty kick ass when I was there. I ended up walking out cause the assistant manager basically said I was shit at my job when I was the only one who could define genre's, reguarlarly read gaming magazines (they were free to staff but not the point) and played games almost everyday, as well as being the only person in the store to have all the consoles. GAME's fate had been sealed while I worked there because we had a couple of the directors come to the store, so the area manager told us to tidy up and get everything spick and span, which is fair enough. I did disagree, however, when we started moving the entire store around (gameboy advance (yes it was THAT era) to back of store, swapping where Xbox and PS2 sections were etc) in about four days because, and I quote "The directors like it to be this way". We were second on the region in terms of sales and performance, we didnt need to change it, the company just pander to managers all the time. It especially pissed me off when the directors spend exactly 5 minutes in the store, then left, didnt even talk to the staff. When the guys running the company dont give a fuck about the people that are actually making them money, or how the store even really looks, what hope did GAME have?

Also as I side note, I once helped a customer in there when I no longer worked there because I knew more than the staff serving her. He just walked off and left me to it...

yeah i walked into a store yesterday and walked out again with a hole lot of kool games for less that £20

I just got Medal of Honour for £3 and the Saboteur for £5 from gamestation, but apart from that most of the sale isn't that great.

Kinda weird going into town earlier this week and seeing no GAME hype for ME3. Just a general sense of despair and resignation hanging over the place instead.

I picked up like 16 games from both GAME and Gamestation for less than a new game, insane!

I went in earlier and they were zero price drops on PC games, and as I walked past the pre-owned section I saw that Skyrim was £32, that's not a firesale son, not even close.

Some of those prices are insane, I mean I swear that King of Fighters game just came out at the end of last year, oh and 48p for Killzone 2 is a fucking great deal! I may go back to them next week if its still on and just spend a little bit more.

I find it strange that GAME Australia is stocking Mass Effect 3 and don't seem to be having a sale like this.

Aren't they owned by the same company?

It's not really a fire sale if they're trying to get money out of all the capital lying around in the form of used Games.

Whlie it's been speculated, there's been no actual word from the company about going into administration. If, IF, they do that. That's when the actual firesale would start.

Plus there's reports this morning of the international stores having a potential buyer. People seem really eager to stick the boot in.

It's not really a fire sale if they're trying to get money out of all the capital lying around in the form of used Games.

This isn't a firesale, it's a clearance sale, all they're offering is tat and other stuff that they can't get rid of normaly.
