I have noticed that games this generation are beginning to lack any sort of cheat codes. I remember back in the day playing games on my NES, SNES, PS1, N64, and even PS2 to some extent poppin' in cheat codes after I beat the game to run around just completely jacking fools but now a days, it's hard to find games that feature some kind of cheats. Even things like the gameshark have gone by the wayside. Of course there is GTA IV but cheats are kind of synonymous with that series. The only game in recent years that I can think of that had you put in a cheat code was the original G.R.A.W. So I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this subject. Do you think that games are better without cheats, worse off, or am I just not paying attention and cheats are just as prominent now as they were back in the day.

Force Unleashed has cheat codes :)

Cheats are still there, just not as prominent.

Games don't need cheats because they're so easy.

I am seriously disappointed with the lack of wacky cheats for GTA IV.
Most games have regenerating health now though, so who needs cheats?

Right, I think people have almost lost interest for cheats, thanks to online walkthroughs, and strategy guides. Cheats just aren't as cool anymore I guess.

Ahh yes I remember the days when I'd scan over the newest issue of Gamepro for SNES codes. Good times.

I think cheats aren't needed and tend to wreck games... i used to play alot of games when i was younger, and just finished off games with cheats.. I remember when i played Doom3 when it came out, i was shit scared of that game, found god mode, finished the game and i walked away going... Ok now that just sucked.

Since that day I havn't used one cheat to help me finish a game, the only cheat that i've used is to unlock all songs on Guitar Hero 3 because i took it to a mates place and just wanted to dick around with all of the songs...

Games are generally easier these days though,  As the game companies make their games more 'accessable' to the wider demographic, it just dumbs it down for people who play games alot and are actually good at games!

Its up to everyone's own opinion i guess though... but i don't bother.

I think it could also have alot to do with achievements, too.  Cheats sort of negate that.

That's the reason why I love Saints Row over GTA, and the reason why SR2 will be the ultimate sandbox experience, IMO.
Saints Row 2 will be the San Andreas of this generation.
