Gamestop is not that bad.
I have only ever had two bad occasions with them, other wise it's fine. I just haven't had a reason to go to their store in ages because of Steam. Plus they never have PC games in stock unless you pre-order something.
Your case is the exception in that it was a 1 to 1 trade. Rarely if ever does this happen and only happened by the fact that you traded in the premier online console game at the current moment. I will give them that the +10-25% credit towards X game is a bonus, but they are far more overshadowed by amazon, kmart and best buy for perks on purchasing. Its pretty sad that an exclusive retailer for games gets beaten to the punch in almost every way by non-exclusive retailers.
There is this girl at the local EB who is there every time I go (totally hot BTW). Last time I went in there I asked if she was seriously going to give me the whole spiel every time I bought something, as I had pretty clearly expressed an educated disinterest on other occasions (I asked this in a calm and respectful manner BTW). She said , without a moments hesitation, that yes she would (She seemed to know exactly what I was talking about BTW). EB games shoves it's crap down customer's throats, even when explicitly asked not to (I've gotten similar responses from other clerks given the same request BTW). As such, I only go in there to buy really old used games that cost between 5 and 15 dollars (uh...somethingsomethingsomething BTW)
Fuck 'em.
I got L.A. Noire for $13 by trading in Halo: Reach and Dead Space 2. That's pretty cool I guess, but Gamestop is still the black hole of terror in the retail world.
I haven't set foot in a Gamestop in months. Not that I hate the place, I just seem to buy more things online now, for convenience sake.
That said, the dudes that work at the store closest to my house were always nice and fun to hang with when I'd go there.
Can I seriously walk in tomorrow with my copy of Black Ops and leave with LA Noire for free?
Sweet. Never had a problem with Gamestop anyways.
The only thing I really mind is the low trade in values, I mean if the game was getting old sure It's not worth as much...but a week or so after the game comes out eeek.
Correct me if I am wrong, I know there is an argument that the dev's don't profit from the used game stuff, but the game has already sold once new...so havn't they already made the money from the game in the first place? Sell a game to your friend, there is no money for the dev's either "Shrug"
I too hate having shit crammed down my throat, but I understand it's there job and they pretty much half to so I just kindly tell them no.
I have no problem with Gamestop at all, that should be clear in some of my earlier blogs.
@nintendoeats: Employee of many different establishments get into trouble if they don't repeat the same BS "offers" over and over again. It's not a matter of you saying no a million times and them not getting it. It's a matter of keeping their job. That's exactly my point.
Nope. Decided I wasn't going to be suckered anymore into buying "new" games that have been unpacked already.
Nearly all of my game purchases are from Amazon now. Time to time I'll pick up a game at the Best Buy near my job since it's open 24/7 and I work nights. At the very least when I buy a game there they don't give me a minute long spiel of why I should pre-order these 3 other games and why I'm an idiot for not signing up for a Gamestop membership. GUYS, GAME INFORMER. Also you know, the game I'm paying full price for hasn't been opened.
WAIT WHAT. OMG I'M GOING RIGHT NOWWell I do understand the hate for gamestop from developers but I gotta say I'm happy with them right now. I just brought my copy of black ops in there to trade in for la noire and it is worth 40 bucks. But since I was trading in towards a new game purchase I got 60 for it and la noire didn't cost me a dime. I understand how the staff can sometimes be annoying but I just say no to the new gam guarantee thing and I know enough about what I want to just ignore them and get on with my purchase. So giantbomb community, do you have any GOOD stories about gamestop?
I got the phone number of a cute girl that worked in a GameStop.I hate you :)We went on a date, had sex and played some Saints Row 2. It was glorious.
I have a good story about Gamestop
My only complaints are that they've never given me a refund for a gutted copy of a game that I paid "new" price for that didn't work, and their retarded prices on used games (ex: The Orange Box shouldn't be $29.99 USED when I look at another shelf and see it for $19.99 NEW).
Are we so antisocial now that saying the word "no" is enough to push us to buying online? I'm sorry, I've always preferred going to a store and picking up a game than waiting for the mailman. There is something special about that experience. Further, maybe this varies from location to location, but the employees at the Gamestops in my town have always been very friendly. A simple "no thanks" to their "do you want to pre-order [insert next fps to come out here]" does just fine.
I've had numerous occasions where I say "no thanks" but the employee behind the counter will continue to insist even after the fact. Not so much about pre-orders, but about signing up for a membership. It's one of the few instances where I've gotten genuinely pissed off at a store like that, I'm calm as a Hindu cow but those kinds of aggressive sales tactics are too much even for me.Are we so antisocial now that saying the word "no" is enough to push us to buying online? You havent seen that many hindu cows have you? Fucker are annoying as shit.
@HatKing said:I would have to attribute that to the employees that you dealt with specifically, they always been friendly to me. I have to admit, if they acted like they did toward you, I'd probably have a bad taste in my mouth too.I've had numerous occasions where I say "no thanks" but the employee behind the counter will continue to insist even after the fact.
