Giant Bomb QoL - A web extension that provides Quality-of-Life enhancements to this wonderful site.

Hey everyone, I've built a free web extension for Chrome and Firefox that provides some quality-of-life features to this site we all know and love.

What It Does

Clickable emotes menu for the live stream chat...

Notifies you when Giant Bomb is live-streaming...

Adds playback rate control to videos...

Hides spoilers (timer, progress scrubber, and next video link) from This Is The Run videos...

Check Your User Options!

The extension also has a User Options page where you can turn any of these features off.

The User Options page also allows you to enter your own API Key, which is required for using some features of the extension!

Latest Major Update

Version 4 Updates:

• Added infobuttons to poll options in Giant Bomb Infinite that link to the video on QLCrew.
• Fixed hiding spoilers for This Is The Run videos.
• New emotes are automatically added to the top of the emotes menu.

That's really cool duder! Trying to remember all those emotes and then having to reference the guide that was posted forever ago in the forums was always a little troublesome.

Thanks, I'll try it out for a bit. The multi part video might be the most useful feature. I turned off the spoilers because I don't care very much so thanks for giving us the options.

@hassun: Thanks! I wouldn't have been able to make the emotes menu without that archive thread, so I appreciate you maintaining it all this time.

@falconer: I hadn't considered it. It looks like porting to Edge is pretty easy, though, so hopefully I can get an Edge release out in the next few days.

@tgjessie: I had considered extending the spoiler hiding functionality to Breaking Brad videos, but it makes less sense since he doesn't do a single run per episode. Maybe I can extend it to all videos with an option that defaults to off. Were there any other specific series that you had in mind?

What about Opera?

It's nice to see that I am featured in the main post of the thread.

@schizogony: Seems easy enough to package the extension for Opera, I'll try and do that tomorrow. Looks like Opera has an approval process similar to Mozilla and Microsoft, so I can't say when it will be approved, though. Mozilla took about a month, and I'm still waiting on Microsoft after 20 days.

Hey guys, if you've been using the Live Stream Notification feature, you've likely noticed that for the past few days it has been showing that Giant Bomb is streaming Evo 2016. This is obviously not actually the case, and the issue is caused by a false result being returned in Giant Bomb's API.

I made a post in the Bug Reporting forum about this three days ago and have yet to hear back. On my end, I'm currently considering if there's any feasible way to validate the API result for a future release to prevent this from happening again.

• Quick and dirty changes to the Emotes menu in anticipation of upcoming chat overhaul.

Quick note about this version. The exemplary developers at Giant Bomb will be rolling out a new Chat system starting as early as tomorrow (Friday). I got a very brief look at how the Emotes menu behaves in the new Chat, and I believe I've made the necessary changes to get it working. However, I wasn't able to verify the changes, so my apologies in advance if the Emotes menu doesn't work for the next few live streams.

@azuresama thanks for the heads up. I unfortunately won't be able to get a fix in until early next week, as I will be without a computer or internet for the weekend.

It's a little harder to maintain now that I'm gainfully employed, especially bug squashing for the live streams since they're running when I'm at work.

if there were a way to change GB's font back to Jubilat I would love that. They made a font change a little over a year ago and I still don't like the replacement.

@larmer That's an interesting idea. I'm afraid that a simple font-family change in the CSS wouldn't quite do the trick, though, as they probably changed font sizes, weighting and spacing when they made the switch last year. Letting extension users set their own font-family via the options page might be a fun addition, though. I'm holding off on any major work until the site redesign hits, since I imagine that is going to break everything regardless, but I will keep that in mind for a future enhancement.

I'll be putting out an update for Giant Bomb TV support as quickly as possible. I'm currently waiting on a response from Giant Bomb developers on API behavior going forward.

• Live stream icon is no longer activated by Giant Bomb TV.

• Live streams take priority over Giant Bomb TV in the toolbar button menu, but Giant Bomb TV will still show if no live stream is running.
