I can't stop watching these. Great job @somestickguy_! Ever thought about doing a tutorial series for creating stuff like this? I'm super interested in it.
Giant Bomb TV Intros: The Odd Couple ed. (Updated 12/17)
If someone wants to help, I need some aid to find good quality clips and photos of staff members. My idea is to make True Detective -style intro, concept video below:
Clips in the video are wip and out of sequence, but you'll get the idea. I specially would like to find video clips that have high resolution, are steady, have closeups, have simple background, etc. I have searched the site (and Googled) but it really is proving hard to find anything on good Alex, Austin and surprisingly Jeff. So, help?!
BTW these are all fantastic and make me want to get back into making stupid videos. You have to do a walkthrough of a video creation someday.
That's not a bad idea! I might give it a while, though, when I'm past the stage where I'm basically duct taping things together and maybe a little closer to actually understanding what I'm doing.
@charlie_victor_bravo: Dude, that looks fantastic so far. What are you using?
Also, yeah, tell me about it. Have you tried the Game of the Year videos? Since it was shot to look like an actual thing you'd put on TV, there's a lot more usable stuff there. As for Austin.....
......
Good luck!
@somestickguy_: I have looked few GOTY videos - most of the have problem of being too shaky. I need to slow the videos down and with low frame rate combined with shaking, does not work (fx stabilization is too slow option for me). But yes, potentially best stuff might be in the GOTY videos.
@charlie_victor_bravo: Sadly there isn't much high FPS Giantbomb footage out there. I'd suggest that you instead slow down some stock b-roll footage (high FPS) and then you can use stills (or if you manage to slow it down properly) for the GB footage. It'll still look fine since there's a lot of stills of humans in the True detective intro. Most of the stuff in the intro that moves are objects and the effects.
I have thought about doing a True detective intro for a long time, so I'm really interested in your progress! If you ever want to bounce ideas of off someone I'm happy to help!
@somestickguy_: I'm really impressed by MacRyckert -- the clip of him eating an ice cream cone was a nice detail. Great work.
Wow, that Arrested Development one was pitch perfect. I don't think you could edit that any better, unless you got Ron Howard to do some voice over work and, let's be real, that's not going to happen.
Stellar work.
@somestickguy_: I've been out of touch for a bit but saw you grabbed my idea and nailed it! Great work man! Keep it up!
@viper: Yes, images can work and might be better, specially with the use of displacement mapping. However it is the lack of or hurdle to find these images (or videos) that is the biggest problem and time sink...
@charlie_victor_bravo: Yeah it's a bitch. I know of a few free stock footage sites that I use. http://www.videvo.net/ and http://www.beachfrontbroll.com/. Have a look through them and see if you find anything worth while
@viper: I think you misunderstood. I have tons of textures, semipro-grade camera with pro-grade optics, hi-quality 4K stock footage and so forth - Giant Bomb material is the one that is hard to find. Most of it is hidden in hours long videos and in this site's poorly browsable images section - I would like suggestions from people about where to look (like: "hey this image on "page x" might be good", or "UPF 11.11.11 had really good clip.").
Fuck, just went back to watch the real MacGyver intro. The parts where Dan/Angus eats the ice cream cone and it ending on both Dan and Angus puffing out their cheeks to blow out air was an inspired sync, as well as a few other synced up scenes.
I JUST noticed the 6.0 Kane and Lynch graphic at that would have been "family lost everything".
It's the LITTLE things that make true hilarity shine through.
You're doing God's work. Also, for posterity's sake:
I forgot this existed. It's so goddamn fantastic.
These are all great but that one is still the king.
The next video I've been working on is actually an Undertale animation, but the one after?
Fans of a certain old-school show with a catchy theme will like it. That's as specific as I'll be.
Thanks for the specific criticism @dudeglove, that helps a lot!
@charlie_victor_bravo: The MGS loading screen video would be good for Drew. The MGS stuff has Dan and Drew in steady shots at the beginning but they're not doing much and they're in night-vision I think. Austin is in the GB beast play dates. He also does rollplay stuff on roll20 twitch stuff but I don't think there is anything usable there. Jeff on UPF usually has shots of just him at the beginning. But yeah interesting steady shots of people. I'll keep a lookout for them. For Alex? Scoops and the wolf or if you can get the wrestling stuff of him from Pax where he's on stage. It might be a twitch archive.
Man, that Arrested Development one is glorious, so nailed, same goes for that Parks and Rec one. I think as you've gone on you've got better.
@izzygraze, @dudeglove: Thanks, I'll check those out.
@kanerobot: ugh, someone should really clean the filth out of the comments though. I mean, christ, look at this jerk:
These are fantastic! Wanted to show my appreciation. :)
Also..
Not sure how many of you were alive when this show was on, but man, if there was an opportunity for some comedic gold, it's right here.
If you've already listened to this week's Beastcast, you probably heard an email from a Jesse in Australia asking for voiceover for their dumb cool thing.
Thaaaaaaaaat was me!
@somestickguy_: AHHH ITS GREAT. Keep up the good work duder.
@somestickguy_: Haha, that is great. I liked "revolving producer" Jeff Bakalar.
@somestickguy_: That is so good!
