Shweet. Can't wait to hear what the community thinks. I was surprised I didn't actually play 10 games from this year. I guess I rarely do. I'm a bargain bin shopper! Also - most of mine for 2012 were downloadable only games :)
Also just as a note, I'm accepting any Game of the Year lists on the latest Spotlight so long as you drop me a link. I have that as a requirement to make the lists easier to keep track of.
Man this has come around quicker than i thought, I will do my list as soon as I finish Dishonered, XCOM, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Far Cry 3, SSX, New Super Mario Bros U, Paper Mario Sticker Star and Crashmo. Oh wait, fuck...
Done. A top ten, and I had to make cuts. This is definitely my favorite year. And to think, I was expecting 2012 to suck. Turns out I've played and loved more games from different genres than any year ever. Anyway, Mark of the Ninja for GOTY! Well...I guess its unlikely overall. But it's my GOTY, and that's all that really matters to me.
Finished mine and submitted. There's a few games that I would have liked to have played before the end of the year but its looking doubtful so this will have to be my final lot.
I'll make a list in the coming days when I finish a few things up. There's almost a 100% chance that Fez will be number one. Both the most fun I've had with a game this year and, besides arguably ME2 (a game I don't like at all, but I can recognize its place in history), likely the game that best defines this generation. It's kind of impossible to compete with that.
Dust: An Elysian Tail blew me away, and Fez came pretty close to doing the same. The rest of my list can't even come close to how damn good those two games were.
What if you haven't played up to 10 games? I've only beaten Dishonored and Dust: An Elysian Tail; everything else I played was either a current-gen game from prior years (e.g. Saints Row: The Third and Bastion) or games from the original Xbox (e.g. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Psychonauts).

Yeah, just rank the games you've played. It'll still be fine. Any length of list is fine, but only the first ten are counted. And if there aren't ten, then it'll just count what's there.
And as for games that didn't come out this year, this is a personal top 10, so you can fudge a little and say Saints Row: The Third is your number 6. I mean, I'm going to do that.
Can we pick games that might not have strictly come out this year? I'm not saying I'd pick something like Dino D-Day, but I kind of have to know if I can choose Dino D-Day.

Done submitted. Actually last minute exciting changes on my GOTY list. Far Cry 3 has eked its way into my heart. Knocked Twisted Metal off the list. Sorry Jaffe, I still love yer demented clown baby but... it just got barely beat by a chainsaw wielding Cheerleeder.
I don't think I've played enough games this year to make a valid GOTY list since I've only finished The Walking Dead, Diablo III, Mass Effect 3, Journey, among others that I can't remember of the top of my head. There are way more games that I really like but haven't finished including Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored, XCOM, Farcry 3 and I can't put them on the list. Maybe next year....
2012 is a weird year! My GOTY this year is so different from previous years. My top 4 games this year are visual novels and minigame/rhythm collections. Crazy.
Also, the world needs to love Virtue's Last Reward more.
Made my list so far, but I'm going to hold off submitting it, because I'm planning on picking up a copy of Far Cry 3 this afternoon, so I want to spend some time with that before I finalize my list, because that game sounds awesome.
