No our beloved mods are not quitting.
After seeing some less than appropriate threads today, all of which were locked down like they are suppose to be.
I began to think.
What if all the mods and staff members for Giantbomb, forgot their passwords simultaneously? No one believed them when they made new accounts and claimed to be the former mods.
What do you think would happen to the Giantbomb community without rules?
I think there would be a lot more threads about porn, I'm just sayin'.
GiantBomb, without moderators?

It's not like Giant Bomb is the only website with staff and moderators... you could ask that question about any website, and it just doesn't make sense
@Ahmad_Metallic: I know but I'm asking how would the Giantbomb community react to having no rules and no one moderating our post.Well since we're all very civilized with each other and don't call each other names or swear at each other much, i imagine all that repressed frustration and hatred would finally come out and

Once people found out there were no mods, I would expect a couple threads that revolve completely around pictures of dongs.
Even if they were all gone now, they'd be back eventually and the forums would be a laundry list of our sins. So basically, I'd sit back, behave myself, and be one of the 20 something users left once the banning ended.

I achieved in My Computer " RING " Style and kill you with my hair !
I would take it upon my self to lay down the law. Judge, jury and executioner style. FOR-I-AM-THE LAW!
Complete and utter chaos to the magnitude that will even cause 4chan to crawl back to deep black corner of the internet from which it came out of.

I started out with the attitude that I was against censorship or control of any kind. Let communities moderate and temper themselves. After all, we're all adults (or adult-ish) and capable of thinking for yourselves and not being offended by mere words. This was 1997 and 1998. It worked, at first. By the time I shut my site down, last year, I realized what a mistake that is. I could (and have considered) writing a book or series of articles to advise current and future community managers and web developers as to the mistakes they should desperately avoid.
Twelve years, millions of dollars in transactions, and almost 100,000 members later, I can safely say that any online community has to have rules and expectations set out ahead of time and there need to be people and facilities allotted to enforce them. Without this, every community will surely devolve. Maybe not as certain in real life. In meatspace. Online, it is as consistent as anything else. You have spam, infighting, flamewars, people with no power trying to enforce the rules on other people with no power. It becomes a horrible mess and, eventually, an uninviting place that drives everyone away -- whether they just got here or have been there since day one.

Well... as long as I can turn off the forums.
Yeah... god this site would be ruined.
Thank you mods.

You mean shit covering everything like, "real shit"?I would never visit the forums again. It would be a literal shit show.

They would hit the button that says "Forgot your password?" and be back online within a minute.

Take a look at /b/. See what that place is while considering that they do, ostensibly, have moderators. So what I'm saying is imagine something worse.

There would be more dumb and pointless threads like this one
The world would end as we know it, buildings would come crashing down, another Chernobyl would happen, America and Russia would start a nuclear war!
Floods, earthquakes, famine, disease, poverty and crime would all rise!
And deadra would come from the planes of Oblivion to rule our world, Mehrunes Dagon would be supreme overlord.
Chuck Norris would die!
All those things would happen...in a world without moderators!

Would Daniel Day-Lewis suddenly materialize in a digital form here on the forums?
...but people will be able to post pictures and videos. oh my god...@Hailinelsaid:

oh god, that would be frightening.
How many actual users do you guys think have been banned from the forums thus far in 2011? Spambots and the like not included, I'm talking about actual users that have been around for more than a day and who have a post count of more than one.
I'll watch this thread for guesses for a couple of hours and then reveal the approximate number...I'm curious to see what you guys think the number is.
