I love both games, but TLOU is my pick - things like Winter and how it begins and ends make it untouchable in my eyes.
Won't be mad if it loses though, Skyrim is a worthy competitor.
I should really play The Last of Us, eh? I can't possibly vote without playing it. I wish I could see the results regardless.
Okay, so just out of interest, what part of Last of Us makes people consider it to be so amazing? I'm genuinely asking, because I've only seen the QL, which didn't exactly make the game seem exceptional...
@beachthunder: The game is definitely a slow burn at the beginning, which was where the QL segment took place. But it ramps up big time, from the end of summer onwards, and never really stops.

By nature of the quicklook, Patrick etc couldnt spoil any of the story. It was also early in the game, so gameplay elements like the upgrade system and weapon variety at the end of the game couldn't be shown.
Essentially that quicklook showed little to none of the elements of what TLOU great outside of the great visuals and basic gameplay loop.
For me, though, it was the journey Joel and Ellie go through - from start to finish, it's just an excellently put together narrative whilst also being a finely crafted game.
@beachthunder: The narrative and the world mainly. I found the relationship between Joel and Ellie to be genuinely touching. I also enjoyed the combat but I know some people weren't fans of it.

Winter is one of the greatest segments of a video game this generation.

Its heart wrenching from start to finish. It doesnt give you a chance to breath. That section of the game is definitely not indicative of the overall experience.
@video_game_king: The Last of Us to spite Skyrim.
Oddly I didn't finish Skyrim (as with all Elder Scrolls Games) but I have to vote for it. The Last Of Us was great, but I didn't find it as great as the internets has made it. Skyrim was what I want games to be. Not without its issues but it's on the right track.
I enjoyed my time with Skyrim, almost all of it. People say it had bad combat, but I say nay, it was fine. People say it had boring dungeons, but I say nay, they were good. People say it had tedious missions, and I say nay, they were grand.
The Last of Us is the best game ever made. Sorry Skyrim.
Last of Us loses because cross console, but at least it didn't lose to a non-game. Unless the Skyrim hate is too strong perhaps!? I kind of wanted a Dark Souls vs Skyrim match-up, figured the Last of Us would lose to either even though its much better than one and slightly better than the other.
@video_game_king: You should find a way to play The Last of Us one day. It's a good game.
@video_game_king: So your favor is tie?
@atlas: Everyone's childhood dream future should either be Ellen Page murdering fools or dying over and over, the two true games of the generation (well, okay Witcher 2 is number 2 but that lost like a year ago). Daniel Defoe on the side is just a plus.

It's the progression really. That game doesn't work well if you just look at a chunk of it. It's about how the characters develop, how they adapt to the situation and I found that to be reflected in the gameplay as well. I wasn't a huge fan of it at first but once you get better gear and an understanding of how to approach the situations the game lays out that part became terrific too. You actually have quite a lot of freedom to plan your attacks but also the ability to react if things go wrong which led to a few badass situations involving bricks, pipes and a few gun rounds.
It's the first Naughty Dog game of this generation where every part works and is interesting as opposed to Uncharted where the shooting is tedious for the most part. It should win this fight.

I know it's only about 10% of the vote in but i am pleasantly surprised by how close this is. Never really believed until about an hour ago that TLoU or TWD would ever have a shot against Skyrim.
I'm 100% with you on that one. This will be exciting to watch unless there's a massive Giant Bomb-EU shift to one or the other.
I'm pleasantly surprised how well TLOU is doing against these excellent multi-platform titles.
@video_game_king: Mass Effect 2 or Dark Souls will win anyway, so I'm good.
Skyrim is a good game but where it truly draws in gamers is its sheer depth with the universe, characters and freedom. Sadly, that really wore off for me quickly and despite how hilariously short Last of Us is in comparison and with both games having barely average combat, the narrative in the latter was just too impactful to ignore.
Last of Us by a hair.
I knew TLOU's console exclusivity would catch up with it and rip its throat out eventually. Maybe it can still win this though, since it's an awfully close race.
It won't. I think you're right in saying that this wouldn't go in favor of Skyrim if Last of Us wasn't PS3 exclusive though.
I went with Skyrim because I enjoyed all of the time I spent with it, and because while the back half of TLoU (starting with Autumn) is stellar, I think a lot of the parts before it, like Pittsburgh, are pretty tedious.
@mercutio123: This is a crazy thing to say when the game you are favoring is Last of Us! You crazy!
