However, there are much more competition for half life to cope with, and it still comes out on top. It's one of my favorate games EVAR! Halo is decent though
Half-Life...If it wasn't for this game we would still have floating and rotating guns, armor shards suspended in the air to pick up and almost non-existent storylines in our FPS games today. Just try playing FPS games before Half-Life came out, you'll know what i mean. Halo is great, but in my opinion I think Half-Life is better.
Half life brought a cool storying telling style and compelling game play to the PC. However people hate on halo cuase its edgy, to me halo has given more to the FPS genre and made it more fun as a whole, things such as recharging health, only carrying 2 guns, the grenade system , well implimented vechile bits and making FPS viable on consols.

Yeah I know, I really don't know whey they're always compared. One is more puzzle and exploration based, the other is more of an action packed hollywood blockbuster. I'm gonna have to give it to the blockbuster, given the choice. If these were films, I'd like Half-LIfe much better, but in terms of sheer gameplay, Halo just felt better when I was killing armies of aliens, or armies of 12 year olds online. I even like Halo's MP better than CS, so even with mods, I have to give it to Halo. Kept it simple, yet did a lot of good things for console FPS controls.
"Combat Evolved" makes sense. It wasn't revolutionary, just the next step in FPS development. Now you see staples of this all over the place in FPS games, the similar controls, the epic hollywood-style sci-fi plot and setting, and even the multiplayer. I feel like half-life didn't impact the course of FPS games AS MUCH. It did have heavy impact culturally, but I don't think it brought anything special to the table in terms of the development of the genre.
PLus there's just... something about half life that never really appealed to me. I dunno, it's competent and everything but it never stuck out for me.
