Have you ever been able to "choose" what you dream about?

They say that if you focus on something before you fall to sleep, you can kind of manipulate your brain into dreaming about it.

So i made this picture. I'm going to stare at it for an hour before going to bed.

I'll let you know if it works tomorrow, but i'm eager to know if anyone has any other tips for choosing your own dreams.

Sometimes, I guess. Once the ''story' starts though it's no holds barred so plenty of what I don't want could still occur.

It's called lucid dreaming. it's a little more complicated than that.

Well one time I wanted a rival businessman of mine to dream that he didn't want to continue his father's company so I hired a team to go plant the idea in his head.

BUT IT WAS ALL A DREAM
(or was it!?)

I've tried many times, never happened. However the other night i was on chatroulette, then i closed my laptop and went to sleep and i was dreaming I was still on it. Same thing last night, I was at a party yesterday, and I dreamed I was playing pong. I can't wait until we finally figure what exactly dreams are. They interest me so much for some reason.

I always thought lucid dreaming meant you were conscious of the fact you were dreaming, and able to manipulate it.

I've dreamed of a video game I play a lot, especially before going to sleep. Also I'll dream about my studies when I go to sleep right after studying for many hours.

I kidnapped Leonardio Decaprio to discover the trick of how to control your dreams.
After 24.6 slaps to the face,
shocking him 93.562 times with a car battery,
and water boarding him with kool aid...

I finally realized that Inception was a sci fi movie... heh.

But no.. i can't, and when i do i never do any daring crap.
Like sometimes i dream at work.  I always behave and act like a kiss ass infront of my boss
If i were to know i was dreaming i'd pull out a baseball bat and remodel his face

I sadly don't remember my dreams very often. I might remember a few a year, but most of the time I don't remember them in the morning.

Never tried it. I've had my dreams influenced by things I saw that day (crazy nightmares the first time I played Bioshock, for example) but I never tried to induce it.

I used to be able to control my dreams to a point,
If you can realize your dreaming without waking up, You can make pretty much anything happen.

I cant seem to do it anymore though,
Dont know if its because Im older now or if it was the years of constant pot intake (Which caused me to stop dreaming at all for years)
But it is definitely possible to manipulate your dream world.

I can do it quite often, but often while I'm dreaming I think "Shit it'd be really bad if this happens" and then exactly what I don't want to happen happens. This weekend I had no control whatsoever though, and my dreams were so fucking creepy I tried to wake myself up by slapping myself. I could feel the hits in the dream and my arm moving outside of the dream before I woke up. My heartrate was over 9000.

I'm not interested in lucid dreaming. A key component of a lucid dream is having an awareness that you are in a dream. I don't want that.

They say that if you focus on something before you fall to sleep, you can kind of manipulate your brain into dreaming about it.

I've done it when going through Resident Evil 2. I'd focus i was in a zombie apocalypse and it worked when i fell asleep.

Another way, is if you realize you're dreaming, you can focus on the things you want to dream about.

I would think that choosing what you dream about is more akin to fantasizing about something rather than actually dreaming. I keep fantasies and dreams as separate phenomena.

Absolutely...
I find it's easier to go back into a dream if you wake up from it though.

I have had some control over my dreams but then it sometimes screws up and doesnt go as planned.

Also when I have epic dreams I wake up so easy and try forcing myself not to wake up but then the dream starts turning black until I can barely see anything.

I have had episode dreams that occur sometimes which can be fun or suck major ass.

If I had full control I never wake my ass up, my brain does not want that though.

I can fly in some of my dreams but never run fast... I have enjoyed manny plessure and manny horrors.

I have once had a tea party with freddy krueger when I was 5 years old long ago, I have had a sword cut my head off giant spiders wrap me in a cocoon, Gumby murdering people in the park, thrown of a church by a lion head human, fighting a gorgon dressed like He-man, Nazi took over america, and other more screwed up shit. My horrors dont bother me much after the stuff I have seen.

My plessures make up for the screwy stuff.

For some reason this just jogged my memory. I've always done this, too, but I just never remembered doing it until now. Usually it's nothing too scary, I think. It's just that, like, things will be happening, and I want a particular thing to happen, but instead the exact opposite happens, and I always think, "Whoa, wait! No. The other thing. Do that!" I know that sounds vague, but I honestly can't pinpoint a real example of it right now. Well, actually, assembling staircases in the correct fashion comes to mind.

I actually have very strange sleeping/dreaming problems. I often sleep walk- but it's more of what I call a 'waking dream'. I am aware that I'm getting up, out of bed, and turning on the lights. But I don't really know why. I usually have some reason which is something strange like I see bugs crawling on my bed or something so I get up to turn on the lights. But that's when I realize they're not there and I'm awake and crazy. I was actually going to write this last night and describe how I frequently dream about bugs. Instead though I went to sleep and then last night I had another one! Something about these giant bees that were red. Giant red fucking bees! Shit was messed up. I used to try and manipulate my dreams with varying degrees of success.

you can use lucid dream to, for example, look at your hands before you fall asleep, so that when you see them in the dream you recall seeing them out of the dream, to which you then realize you are dreaming and are aware that a dream is taking place. if you are skilled enough at lucid dreaming, you can then go on to influence the dream like you are awake and making active physical decisions, but of course you are still asleep.

Okay, so i've had an idea.

I have a projector that i use to beam movies onto the back wall of my house, so i can watch them from my garden. I'm going to set the projector up, so it beams a slideshow of images of me that i have edited Tali into using microsoft paint, onto the ceiling directly above my pillow.

Hopefully this will work.
