How do you become a moderator?

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say you probably aren't going to become a moderator. :/
 
Also if you've never moderated before on a site that gets more than a couple dozen members you might like to know it's not all rainbows and lollipops.

If you have to ask, it won't happen. Sorry.

Are you aware that you look like your avatar in real life? It's actually astonishing. Is that intentional or coincendental?
 
Oh and you can become a moderator if you display commitment, existing editorial skills and lead a good example in moderation despite not having the powers of a mod. For example, you could quote particular troublemakers and advise them that they're going to get sodding owned by a mod if they continue to behave irrationally...people like me for example.

Become a prominent member of the community, get some wiki-editing done, do some notable blogs that people come back to etc.
 
Once you've been taken notice of by the community and GB staff a like they will suggest you themselves.

You must be chosen. Some one with 147 posts probably won't be.  
 
I'd say you probably need to have been never warned by a moderator and lots of posts and/or lots of wiki points.  
 
I remember them having a thread a while back asking for volunteers to be a moderator. Then the mods chose one of them.

Yeah, being a mod is kinda shitty. I used to moderate on a fairly big gaming site and got sick of it after a couple of years. No one thanks you for doing a good job, but have no problem bitching when they feel like they've been treated unfairly. I remember a guy that wanted my moderating capabilities revoked because he had created multiple accounts and started trolling the forums. You have to deal with teenagers that feel like they're allowed to do everything.
 However, if you really want to moderate, be part of the community and don't be a dick. Eventually you may be asked to moderate.

Not worth worrying about, maybe gun for a fansite or something like that.

Becoming a mod is earned through being active, friendly, knowledgeable in the community, making wiki edits,  and following the rules of the site and forums. You don't just become a mod by asking for it, you have to earn it. 
 
Also, I don't think they need any more mods right now, we have a lot, and the forums seem to be pretty laid back in the spam posts and troll threads.
 
 @EuanDewar: Ehh, that's not entirely true...ZombiePie and Morino were the latest to become mods, and that was a few months ago.

It would take ou roughly two to three years to get to the cred to become a moderator here. You would be better off starting your own website. Or getting enough money to buy Whiskey Corp.

Like everyone else said, you have to earn it. And with the amount of users the website has, and more active than you, you probably won't get there. 
 
Also I heard that one prominent criteria is the place where you live. If you don't live in the US, your chances are very dim.

The best way to become a mod is to first understand there's never any guaranteed way to become one!  
 
Just be cool to people, be helpful to them and contribute in a positive and productive manner around the site.

Be active and don't ask to be a mod. Asking to be a mod or asking how to be a mod just lowers your chances. If you're going to ask that question, at least hide your intentions on wanting to be a mod.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be true.  There are 6 mods with under 1000 posts.  One of them even has less posts than the OP of this thread.  However, all but one has over 1000 wiki points.   "

Why would you ever want to be a mod on any website? I have never understood that.

Moderators are overrated. Plus they usually got several sticks up their ass *coughneogafcough* 
 
It's why I like this place. Mods are chill and the community doesn't usually abuse their freedoms.
