How do you become a moderator?
I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say you probably aren't going to become a moderator. :/
Also if you've never moderated before on a site that gets more than a couple dozen members you might like to know it's not all rainbows and lollipops.
Are you aware that you look like your avatar in real life? It's actually astonishing. Is that intentional or coincendental?
Oh and you can become a moderator if you display commitment, existing editorial skills and lead a good example in moderation despite not having the powers of a mod. For example, you could quote particular troublemakers and advise them that they're going to get sodding owned by a mod if they continue to behave irrationally...people like me for example.
" If you have to ask, it won't happen. Sorry. "@FLStyle said:
" Become a prominent member of the community, get some wiki-editing done, do some notable blogs that people come back to etc. Once you've been taken notice of by the community and GB staff a like they will suggest you themselves. "Both of these are pretty much the rules, although it doesn't always work, after all look at me, my amazing gifts have still gone unnoticed ;)
Honestly though from previous experience it's worth noting that being a moderator is not really fun, no one will ever thank you for doing things right, but get something wrong and they will let you know about it.
You must be chosen. Some one with 147 posts probably won't be.
I'd say you probably need to have been never warned by a moderator and lots of posts and/or lots of wiki points.
I remember them having a thread a while back asking for volunteers to be a moderator. Then the mods chose one of them.
Be awesome and wait for the call. I don't think they're actively looking for more, but if the advertising spam accounts keep up, then they may look for a couple.
Yeah, being a mod is kinda shitty. I used to moderate on a fairly big gaming site and got sick of it after a couple of years. No one thanks you for doing a good job, but have no problem bitching when they feel like they've been treated unfairly. I remember a guy that wanted my moderating capabilities revoked because he had created multiple accounts and started trolling the forums. You have to deal with teenagers that feel like they're allowed to do everything.
However, if you really want to moderate, be part of the community and don't be a dick. Eventually you may be asked to moderate.
Becoming a mod is earned through being active, friendly, knowledgeable in the community, making wiki edits, and following the rules of the site and forums. You don't just become a mod by asking for it, you have to earn it.
Also, I don't think they need any more mods right now, we have a lot, and the forums seem to be pretty laid back in the spam posts and troll threads.
@EuanDewar: Ehh, that's not entirely true...ZombiePie and Morino were the latest to become mods, and that was a few months ago.
" From what I understand there hasn't been a new Moderator added in a long time so Im gonna say your chances aren't great. "Especially not when he continues to create one useless thread after the other to get a quest.
" you just asked the forbidden question, so kiss your chances goodbye "Yeah, this is true as well...most people who ask to become a mod are never even considered.
"It would take ou roughly two to three years to get to the cred to become a moderator here. You would be better off starting your own website. Or getting enough money to buy Whiskey Corp.
"
I like that second option, I'd change the name to Lucha Deer Corp but unbeknowst to me he would use his newfound power and then overthrow me, have me murderderededededed and then overthrow humanity as we know it!

" Like everyone else said, you have to earn it. And with the amount of users the website has, and more active than you, you probably won't get there. Also I heard that one prominent criteria is the place where you live. If you don't live in the US, your chances are very dim. "MattyFTM doesn't live in the US, and I don't think Hamz does either.
" @Jeust said:Yep, that was a rumoured preference when from the last recruitment." Like everyone else said, you have to earn it. There are 6 mods with under 1000 posts. One of them even has less posts than the OP of this thread. However, all but one has over 1000 wiki points.
" The best way to become a mod is to first understand there's never any guaranteed way to become one! Just be cool to people, be helpful to them and contribute in a positive and productive manner around the site. "This. Bribing also doesn't hurt your chances.
" I'd love to be a moderator, is it a "Wait and you will be chosen" kind of deal or do you have to undergo some kind of barbaric gladiator duel or embark on a quest to find a bunch of orbs. I need guidence "Since you just asked you wont become one.
Hahaha! This is a clever post, indeed. Kudos! I say, one must not act like an idiot like myself. Post plenty. Edit plenty. Yes! Even become chummy with those who mod. Yes!

" @Hizang:Oh I dunno, I'd rather have a moderator with 900 good, solid posts than some maniac with over 10,000 lunatic rants.

I think what everyone is trying to tell you is that you need to send the GB staff pics of yourself naked. Thats how BG makes its mods...creepy porn XD" I'd love to be a moderator, is it a "Wait and you will be chosen" kind of deal or do you have to undergo some kind of barbaric gladiator duel or embark on a quest to find a bunch of orbs.
