How do you position your console? why?

Horizontally because it's a PS3

I position my 360 horizontally and my Wii vertically. Wherever I've been they've always just fitted into entertainment setup that way and I don't want my 360 to fall over (the Wii is fine in that regard as it's smaller, lighter and has a stand).

I have my Xbox placed vertically next to my tv, and my PC is also sitting up vertically under my desk.

Horizontal, I always do that.

horizontal because it seems completely useless to do it vertically on my current setup for my 360/PS3.

Always Be Horizontally. That's just how I roll.

I have my Xbox 360 vertical on one side of the TV and the PS3 vertical on the other side. My TV rests on top of a desk though (which I sit at, with my gaming PC to the left), so I have plenty of space.

My 360 sits vertically next to my TV. I have to be careful so the disc doesn't fall out. 
 
My PS2 sits the same way on the other side of the TV 
 
I have a Wii. It sits in my drawer. 
 
I also have an old Xbox and a Gamecube that are in my computer cabinet that aren't plugged up. I have the Xbox modified and used almost exclusively for Super Nintendo and Game Boy games, and the Gamecube still has some good gems I want to finish again.

Xbox = Horizontal because of the space available for it on the shelf underneath my TV
Wii = Vertical because it fits great that way on the side of the TV
PS3 = Vertical on the opposite side of the TV
 
Is there a reason to position these systems a certain way?

Horizontal because I have the space. Both the 360 and PS2

Horizontal. Doesn't matter where I put it, vertical just looks wrong and a wee bit unsafe.

Horizontally because why the fuck would I trash my discs

I am using my xbox to elevate one of my PC monitors so its horizontal. Also I have trashed 2 rockband disk from people pulling over my xbox and because I got sick of buying games multiple times I started keeping it horizontal.

VERTICAL OR BUST, HOMEDAWG. 
 
Kidding, I have to have my Xbox and PS3 vertical because it's hooked up to my computer monitor/TV at my computer desk, so there's not a lot of wiggle room. I'd much prefer them horizontal, but oh well.

Use to have everything vertical due to limited space.  Then my 360 DVD drive started making alot of noise.  So I got a new entertainment center and laid everything down.  Noise gone.

Horizontally. I have always had my consoles positioned horizontally, because I find they're much more stable that way. I tried placing my PS2 vertically for about a week, and discovered that I had difficulty switching discs without having them fall out of the disc tray. Perhaps a fault on my behalf but I don't want to re-learn how to use my console beyond gaming. My current setup is quite punishing towards anything other than horizontally as well.

PS3 and 360 are horizontal, while the Wii is vertical (stand and all that)

I used to position my 360 vertically to save space, but the disc drive started making kind of a squeaking noise, so now I have them both placed horizontally.

360 and PS3 horizontal.

Vertically, saves space when you have a teeny tiny room.

Horizontal for my 360 and PS3.  As for my dust collecting machine, I mean my Wii, I have it vertical.  

PS3 vertical because it's the only way that console doesn't look hideous.

Horizontal. Shit can get real bad when things are vertical.

Horizontally because the PS3 Slim can't stand vertically without a stand. 

Horizontally, almost broke my xbox putting it vertically.

Always have my xbox horizontal. 

A vertical system has a chance to fall down. I don't like to take chances with my systems.

i keep my ps3 horizontal because my cat is an asshole and will knock it over.

I keep my consoles horizontal just because I'm scared of bricking any more of them. If you've ever fixed your xbox from the RROD then you know what I'm talking about. Those little sticky pads coming loose, eh? It has served me well so far...

Because it cannot fall then :D

Both horizontal now(PS3 always was), to sit on 3 tier glass shelving attatched to wall. I do not like how one side of venting is near obstructed on the 360, but it seems to do fine, and I heard that it's good for the disk player. Havn't been using the 360 hardly anyways, but Shadows of the Damned will change that.

Horizontal, because that's the only way they'll fit in my TV stand.

It is really bugging me that you have the systems on the opposite sides from what is shown in the picture there. And the controllers are next to the wrong systems... OCD kicking in...

LOL, Actually the white controller is a wired PC Microsoft pad that is connected to the PS3 via a PS3 Cross Battle Adapter and PS3 pad is just a spare. And I was not going to move my consoles to match with the picture (sorry)

But just for you I took another photo for you to look at!

Vertical is too visually stimulating whenever I bring amish families over to play street fighter. So yeah, horizontal all the way.
