How long will Giant Bomb last?
" Giant Bomb as we know it today probably won't last forever, the staff will inevitably move on to other things, hopefully this won't happen for another 10-15 years or so.... "Indeed. From the sound of things the staff seems to be enjoying their work and everything they do and as long as they are able to, I think they'll continue to do so.
Until Jeff or Ryan has a stroke/heart attack/dies from poor diet. I'm genuinely afraid for those guys.
Three years? Come on, give the guys some credit, they're gonna make the site last longer than that. It is strange though, I was just thinking about the possibility of Giant Bomb ending some day but the thing which really unsettled me about it was that we'd lose all that awesome database data. Maybe when the universe ends and everything has been compacted into nothingness there will be a single server floating within the void and attached to it the capsules of a thousand clones of Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny, ready to start the human race anew.
I don't think GiantBomb will slow down anytime soon especially with WhiskeyMedia getting bigger if you read the whiskey blog they have a link to an interview with the CEO of Whiskey Media basically we can probably expect in-addition to screened to brand new sites by the end of this year apparently.

I'll probably stop coming here within a couple years or so. When that happens, this whole site will just fall apart at the seams.

I assume it will last for a while. Gamespot, 1up and IGN have been around for a while, and Giantbomb is no different. There will always be gamers, and there will always be the internet. Or one hopes there will be...

Well, once the machines become self aware the entire GB wiki will be out for blood. The Four Horsemen of the gaming Apocalypse will then take over: RapeLay, Deadly Premontion, Duke Nukem Forever, and Street Fighter 4 (who would've guessed?). We will all be at their mercy, but the GB crew will lead a resistance. Many will be lost, but out of the ashes a new utopia will emerge, headed by our most glorious Luchadeer.
So yeah, long time.
It's sort of disheartening to see people act as though the dudes are the sole focus of the site. Don't get me wrong, the video features and stuff are great, but there's an entire (massive) wiki database that lots of people've put effort into creating and expanding; bringing that down just because the original crew will have to leave at some point or another would be nothing but a waste.

"its sad but beyond say 20 games on that db, I would say not enough people care to keep the db going if the guys leave. Mainstream gaming for the win
Everything is forever developing and continually changing, so must Giantbomb. But that don't mean it shouldn't lose what makes it great, I'm sure it will still be wonderful in the many years to come. Other sites have been able to keep that special honest quality about themselves for many years on the world wide web, why shouldn't Giantbomb.
How long? Well it depends what you consider Giant Bomb. The brand or the dudes?
How long is Gamespot gonna last? It's still there last time I checked, but to me it's as if it wasn't there. To me it was about the dudes, if they leave GB I doubt I'll keep caring. But who knows.... they said I'd never do anal. Who's laughing all the way to the bank now!?
But seriously, in 10 years I'll have a whole 'nother set of troubles to deal, maybe kids or a wife. Will I even have time to check these sites as much? Will I even care about the people behind the sites? I hope I find the time.
Giant Bomb is very dear to my heart, but then again; so was GameSpot once for me.
I love the GB 'Crew', the features and the community as a whole that keep the site going.
They're just two years in existance and they still have to celebrate their 100K user mark.
But life is full of erratic, capricious turning points.
Anything can happen, and the things we once enjoyed might lose their appeal in the long run.
If GB ceases to exist, then that'll just be the case.
For now, i'm glad GB's still there every time i log in (on pretty much a daily basis), and i hope that'll be for a long time to come.
I doubt giant bomb will fade away. Due to the other websites banning ppl with little to no warning like Kotaku, I prefer Giant Bomb :D.
Age will only be as big a factor as they let it be. Games will eventually mature, the audience will mature with them and that audience will want mature critics, not punk ass kids. I mean, I'm only twenty-sum, but I already can't help looking down on some of the guys running these shows, because they clearly never touched a game before Wipeout or Halo and therefore don't know anything about anything. That's only going to get worse.
Jeff and Ryan could decide the time has come where they need to move onwards and upwards to 'better' things (maybe development?), but I hope it won't be because they think they're too old to be doing this anymore. They could be the Siskel and Ebert of games if they wanted. Why not? Somebody will be. I don't think that our generation is going to grow out of games anytime soon.
Giant Bomb doesn't survive without the dynamic of Jeff and Ryan though, I have no doubt about that, at least not in its current form. GB is as much about 'personalities delivered by games coverage' as it is about 'games coverage delivered by personalities'. If it becomes an IGN or a Gamespot then yeah it can survive pretty much any amount of staff turnover, but it won't really be Giant Bomb anymore.
Here's hoping for at least a few more years of living the dream before any of that becomes an issue.
