Austin and Vinny talking about Gundam on the latest Beastcast got me thinking.
So I made this thing.

By the way that new Gundam show that Austin was talking about, Iron Blooded Orphans, is OK. I watched the first 3 episodes and although there is definitely some grit sprinkled about stemming from the characterization of child soldiers, overall it is still replete with cliched anime stereotypes throughout. You got the stoic, tough protagonist, the cool best friend, the naive-aristocratic-idealistic girl crush, the cute-childhood girl crush, the cartoonishly evil grownups, the grownups that respect the kids.. so on and so forth. It's a little like eating a bowl of chicken noodle soup with some shrimp in it. The shrimp certainly adds a unique flavor to the entirety of the dish, but you still have to work your way through the entire bowl of chicken noodle soup just to get those unique splashes of flavor sprinkled about. Also by God, the hairdo's on these characters... like I told Austin - it appears that after 300 years of war only a single hair stylist has survived, and he's simply faaaabulous.
If you like anime, and you like Gundam, it's more of both with some interesting flourishes but don't expect too much (so far).
