Title says it all. I don't care if it's fast. I don't care if it's slow. I don't care if it's the midi version. I don't care if it's from the orchestrated soundtrack. You got it. I want it. I NEED to hear the hottest sax that the world of video games has ever produced.

Let me start us off with this little number:

I refer you to the entirety of the Mario Kart 8 soundtrack. In particular, the sax and guitar duel in Big Blue is pretty fantastic.

Burning Rangers sax solo starts three minutes in, for those of us that are impatient.

I present the seductive soprano sax of "I am the Wind." This slow jam plays over the PSX version's end credits. I think it's about Maria pursuing Alucard with Richter's blessing, because she wants that Vampire Hunter D.

Snatcher would have been my choice. That said, though it's not my favorite, a game called Guardian Heroes has some saxophone bits in it. Unfortunately, not a lot of games have saxophone's in it.

It's so Snatcher. I was thinking of the Sega CD version of the Final Fight soundtrack because it is so fucking 90's and awesome but yet was shocked to comb through it and realize there is not sax in there (at least I can't hear it, just other horns). Huge omission. Slap bass and wailing guitars are well represented though.

After listening to everything in here so far, I must concur that Snatcher is in a league of its own.

While this isn't the version that appears in the game, I felt that Persona 4 should be represented.

Halo 3: ODST and L.A. Noire do come to mind on the jazzy sax side of things.

I've never played Resonance of Fate, but this is the track which plays during the infamous "all we have are raisins"-scene and I just couldn't get it out of my head.

SimCity 4 has a song with one of the hottest saxes* I've heard, no joke.

It starts at around 0:52.

*I'm assuming that's a saxophone, at least. I don't know much about music.

That idea made me think of the SF II instrumental album, which I have fondness for in all its goofiness. And boy does the Ken track wail on the old sax. Cheating and all since it wasn't in a game but still.

I definitely agree that the brass section is woefully underutilized in video game scores. Also: shame on no one else for bringing up the King of Fighters soundtrack until now. I mean basically every team Iori's on's theme has the word saxophone in the title.

Couldn't make up my mind on whether to include this one since it's actually a synth and it's hard to tell whether they were actually going for a trumpet or a saxophone. Let's just say saxophone because it's sexy and any chance I get to bring up Front Mission seems like a win in my book.

It's also not in the game (or P4D IIRC), but the first thing I thought of was the live version (from Persona Music FES 2013 ~in Nippon Budōkan~) of key plus words (Persona4 the ANIMATION OP2). It's not sax. throughout, but the bit at 2:33 jumped out at me. Bonus: Meguro-san shredding in white tie :D. His performance of Battle for Everyone's Souls from the same concert is great.

Definitely Guardian Heroes. Jazzy Sabotage (great name) is my favorite example. I can still remember playing this with my buddy in '96 (only person I knew that had a Saturn) and bursting into laughter when the sax kicked in. Humor soon turned into love, and it is still one of my favorite OSTs to date.

@tanookisuit: There was a dude playing saxophone in the Toronto subway the other night and it made me feel like I was in Snatcher. It was the best.

@squirrelgod: To me the only answer has ever been the entire soundtrack to Interstate '76. This is just the intro but... it sets the aesthetic for the entire thing. A friend of mine did an arrangement/medley for a few of the pieces for a local funk band called Five Alarm Funk. This is the only existing audio I know of that arrangement though.

@ktargo: Holy fuck, I have never heard this Big Blue remix from Mario Kart 8 before. Might just be the greatest remix of that song, ever.

Also, after doing some digging on my own for that Mario Kart 8 soundtrack, the remix for Mute City is also pretty fantastic.

This is off topic, but seeing this thread pop up again made me think of how awesome the Baccano opening theme is. The saxophone is truly a fine instrument.

Pretty much any and all of the Dropsy soundtrack, forever and ever. It's so fucking good.

Grim Fandango's more trumpet-heavy than sax, but there's still some good sax parts in there.
