This would be my third 360 in the last couple of years due to red rings, but this time the disc drive broke.

I just bought Rockband 2 and The Force Unlneashes so...

I don't have to cash to repair it and the only way it'll be fixed for free is if it's red ring'd.

Anyone know how to make that happen?

... Do the towel trick.. Just wrap it up in a towel, and play a game for awhile..

But you realise if its red ringed, and the DVD drive is stuffed... They will go 'wtf' and possibly only fix the Red ring... thats just my opinion.. I havn't had to talk to Microsoft yet (thank god :P)

Try the towel trick to get a RROD, it worked for another user on GB that I had suggested that to.

Best of luck.

Yeah leave it on overnight... if you really want to help it along put it ontop of a heater or something like that when its on...
You know.. In australia you can get the DVD drives replaced (out of warrenty) for about $60-70.. which would be around $40-50USD?

lol I pretty much did that.

And it broke on its own. They wouldn't fix it for free or anything.

But I really appreciate the help.

MOAR HEAT! MOAR HEAT!

But in seriousness, the best way to accomplish a red ring is to play it NON-STOP. Also keeping it in a badly ventilated area.

Hold in in your hands, drop it, then kick it hard, don't wear steelcaps or anything stupid, just some sneakers, it won't leave a dent and it'll almost always cause a RROD. Never heard of the towel trick, so yeah, you could try that too I guess...

In a sauna.

Well you do know that the regular warranty for the xbox is 1 year right?  how old is your box?  The red rings are covered for 3 years.  So if its the disc drive and you have had it less than a year, your ok, just give MS a call.  Also i guess the warranty is only good if it was new xbox and not one they sent you which i am assuming is the case then.  Also, if you cant get the red ring going, just call them and tell them that sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't.  That you try to play and it is random when it happens. That also happened to me where the box would red ring but if i turn it off and on it might work.  Eventually it did stop working.

I've heard of some people wrapping it in towels and then putting it in the oven for like a minute. ha
