Lately I've been finding myself on the go quite a bit. I love my Switch, but I recently got an iPad Pro that has started to replace my laptop, so I'm interested in keeping things light.

I keep doing research to find good, meaty games that work well on a new iPad Pro, but it's tough to find quality in those things. Everyone recommends Vainglory, but it seems kinda sad to me. Spaceplan is the only thing that's kept my interest. I swear, that's the perfect iPad game.

Do you guys have any recommendations? I haven't heard anything about the XCOM ports, but if those are good, I'll buy those up immediately.

Shadowrun Dragonfall is a solid game. I haven't played the iPad version myself, but I've heard decent things. Might be worth the couple of dollars to check it out.

Not sure what you interpret as meaty so this may not be what you want, but the iPad port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is really great.

  • Downwell: That game works surprisingly well on the iPad.
  • VOEZ: It is a fun rhythm game.
  • Tomb of the Mask: Some really fun arcade-y action.
  • 80 Days: I haven't actually finished this game, but a lot of people swear by it.
  • 999: Not sure if a visual novel will interest you, but there's some stuff out there like 999. It's kind of a weird iPad version of the game where they removed the puzzles.

My main recommendations are the first three--Downwell, VOEZ, and Tomb of the Mask. And there's some more bite sized, play for a couple hours games. Stuff like Device 6, Crossy Road, Monument Valley, Metamorphabet, etc.

And if you want to take the dark path with me, there are some options for that as well.

The enhanced editions of the old D&D games (baldurs gate, planescape torment, Icewind dale) are great, and pretty solid on iPad.
